February 21, 20215 yr I have to ask, having never ever used VR before, is the MSFS version really a good implementation of VR? I’ve read conflicting things. I run top of the end hardware. I’ve tried lots of VR games now and they work great. When it comes to MSFS, the initial ‘wow’ I’m in a cockpit moment has gone. Now I’m left with tuning. Tweaking. I have not had to do that with any other VR game. Granted they’re not generating the whole world, but even so, they still appear to be better ‘polished’. Using a G2 with a 3090 and i9900KS, I am hoping that Asobo perform Some black magic in the next few sim updates. Not a complaint, more of an observation. Still persevering with VR. Couldn’t really go back to 2D mode now. So I appear to be stuck in some state of limbo.

February 22, 20215 yr VR needs a lot of optimisation from Asobo, that may come with any future optimisation benefits and perhaps with the DX12 upgrade in the summer. It's largely due to their own fault of not coding the Sim with VR in mind from the very beginning, had they done that with VR support from Day 1 of the main Release we'd be in a much better place with it than we are now. Having said that it's not terrible compared to other VR Sims or games, I'm thoroughly enjoying it, but it's just not "there" yet in many areas. Even with a 3090, and using a G2 (granted its a lot of pixels) it just cant get up to the levels of FPS that VR needs. And enable motion smoothing or whatever they call it, is a disaster. February 22, 20215 yr Since you have a G2 and lucky to have the RTX3090, do this: In the VR section set it one notch below what you think it should be (at medium setting through out), VR Sim Guy on YouTube has many videos on settings and he is also using the G2 and RTX3090 as well. For those who can afford it and have these high end HW, Asobo current implementation should be good enough. For the rest of us having lesser HW, we will have to wait longer, if they actually pay attention to us (I already pointed pointed out that in Asobo pipeline of fixes, there are no mention of VR improvement in another thread). So far it's a pretty decent implementation of VR in a flight sim, compared to VR in P3D where the performance is not as good, and the graphics are... not as good, to say it politely. I haven't tried VR in X-Plane.
February 22, 20215 yr Most reporting problems seem to only have 32G RAM Even though your analyzer says you only used 30G RAM, so you think why get more I had enough? It must be throttling back, which always causes stutters, compromising... I have 64G RAM and often reach 38G usage and that is without using my 4K monitor, I use my 1900x1200 only but with a G2 headset. I now use 80 scaling in OpenXR and 100 in MSFS seems best . Was using higher before but it could be weirdly jerky inside VR cockpit Edited February 22, 20215 yr by peppy197

MSFS is a subpar VR implementation if you have experienced XP11's native VR or Flyinside Injected FSX/P3D. Doesn't even come close to the bells and whistles the past sims offer as far as VR options and features. February 22, 20215 yr i am very happy with the VR Experience, i love it. Sure it could be doing better here and there but overall its ok. VR Development did not end here, it just startet! I am so bored when starting msfs on standad monitor, you just dont get the feeling sitting inside a cockpit, and no altitude feeling. 2D is now only for Replay movie recording 😅
February 22, 20215 yr Might be a bit off topic but I‘ve just had an amazing experience in VR. I rarely fly the A320 in VR because of performance issues, but today I thought I‘d give it another go. I took off from Liverpool and headed up north to Glasgow. The weather was spectacular (live weather). At first the sky was clear with only a distant ribbon of high clouds in the west. I passed the Lake District and the sun was beautifully reflected on the sea and the lakes in the hazy distance below. As I descended it got darker and cloudier. I passed the airport and headed north into the mountains to catch the ILS when it suddenly began to rain heavily. I turned on the terrain radar, just in case. As I turned and caught the ILS for rwy 23 the weather cleared up again, changing from light rain to sunshine several times on my way to the runway. Scottish weather just as you’d imagine. The atmosphere was breathtaking. This was one of the best flights I‘ve ever experienced. When I shut down the engines at the gate I couldn’t help but smile. I guess I have to use VR more often, even if it‘s not fully optimized yet. What a blast! i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2
February 23, 20215 yr I'm only running PSVR but with a 3080 I can run MSFS VR at ultra settings and 200% render scale and it looks pretty good, especially for VFR flights where tiny text on screens doesn't matter so much, with reasonable FPS and is mostly smooth. If Asobo can eek more performance out of FS2020 in VR and make a high res VR headset, like the G2, perform well then I will upgrade my headset. Until then, I shall enjoy what I have! 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
February 23, 20215 yr I'm enjoying the VR, even if it's topping out at about 30fps. I just wish I could use the hand controllers in the way they work in Xplane
