ATC ignores wind direction

Featured Replies

Hi all. Been noticing an awful lot that, unless I’ve previously specified a landing runway myself, ATC will direct me to use any old runway irrespective of wind direction. I’ve lost count of the times that I’ve made ultra-fast, downwind landings. Or looked across at a fully inflated windsock blowing at 90 degrees different to my heading.

Sometimes, if I really don’t want to crash, I will ignore their directives, and place myself into wind. Other times, I will obey their misguided orders, and fight my way down. Just wondered if this was a general thing that needs fixing, or is the problem at my end somehow? It does ruin the immersion a bit when nearly every flight culminates in either a battle with the wind, or a flagrant disregard for flight rules.

Yes ATC right now is like random dice roll 9 out 10 times they put you on runway with a tail wind!

I have discovered you can taxi to any runway and ATC will still clear you for take off. I just go to the one I planned according to weather.

I do that quite often too. The main trouble starts if I cut a journey short, and head off to the nearest airport. If the visibility is poor, and it’s not a large, well illuminated airport, it can be a game trying to get a look at where is best to land as opposed to where I’ve been told to land.

It's annoying after landing into wind being told to clear the runway as you are not cleared to land.  It can't be difficult to program ATC to recognise wind direction.

Oddly, I'm sometimes ready to enter a left pattern only to be told to fly right traffic too.

Lastly, I would like to request an overhead join/rejoin too if possible.

The wind is there to read, since I use PF3 for my ATC it it always calls the proper runway according to the wind direction for take off and landing. Sometimes the wind changes on approach, and PF3 will change your landing runway.

Never had an issue with this in previous versions of flight sims.  I'm thanking for this thread as I was beginning to think it was my set-up.  I don't know why they didn't just copy the code from things that worked fine in previous versions of flight sim.  Stuff like this It makes me feel that the eye is on the Xbox crowd.

What is PF3?

ATC has also descended me into mountains enough times that I dont bother with it anymore

At least give us the option to request a different runway.

Man I wanted to try the demo but the E-Mail doesn't arrive. I start to think the dev actually sends them out manually. o.o

He is in the UK, so it is about 10 PM  there. You will probably have it in morning.
