NavData ? Navigraph vs MS...

Featured Replies

So far I've not changed NavData sources to Navigraph. Wondering if people are choosing to stick with MS or go with Navigraph - and if there's any downside to using Navigraph?

I use Navigraph for charts and FMS data more than anything. I actually see an upside to using the subscription for $10 per month(AU) than looking for faults. There really are non from my POV. It's worth it.

I use the beta which updates the data in the sim to include the latest AIRAC.  No issue so far, even with the default flight planner.  Which picks up all the Nav data sent to it via LNM.

Navigraph for me, just download the software and you can trial it for 2 airports).  The charts and moving map alone are worth it and having your FMS/Simbrief/STKP data matching is imo a must have if flying IFR.

I love Navigraph with Simbrief. In fact, Navigraph just purchased and taken over Simbrief.

Navigraph has a lot more approaches for smaller airports compared to default.  I actually had a non chart subscription and completely forgot about it.  So I updated to charts as well (to fly the CJ) and I'm pretty happy with it.

Will probably do the same, I take it ATC reads the new approaches as well as the aircraft?

Yes, the Navigraph data overrides the default NavBlue data, and the ATC will see the approaches, just as they do with the default.

Great stuff, will probably spring for charts as well then...

Seperate updater for the CRJ as well now as that also has its own DB but you can now overwrite it with NG data, that one is not part of the main updater yet but it's coming so once that's done you can update all your navdata across MSFS and add-on planes/tools with one click.

Some other threads about NG and there are some issues with certain airports still, in my experience the ones that had issues were actually due to NG having more data (eg all runways) while MSFS only had data for 2, Barcelona was one of them.  But I believe there are issues with KORD even with the NG data or at least there were, don't fly there so can't confirm.

The way I look at it is is not which data 'is the best' but rather which data 'works best' and given that NG is the only data that will have a synced database across multiple tools I will pick that even if there are some shortcomings on some airports based on certain reports.   Depends on your needs of course, if you gonna fly FMS based passenger jets then it's imo impossible to live without it.   If you are just using the built in flight planner for IFR flights using the Garmin types then maybe not so much.

It does for MSFS what FSAerodata does for P3D.

The moving map, and coliur coded Sids and Stars, allows for awesome flightplanning too.

If you do any sort of group flights with flight plans, or shared cockpit, you should all be using the same nav database. Usually, in the groups im flying, that means reverting to default.

I cannot count how many times I have tried to add procedures with Navigraph navdata in my community folder only to find they do not exist for many of the large airports. Got out of MSFS started up again without Navigraph and the procedures are back.

To many conflicts with freeware and payware airports. Something about if runways are not correctly added and the layer numbers in the XML files are not in a certain order MSFS with not use the Procedures. I made the fix work posted by Navigraph for KORD. The other day did not have Stars for KATL with same chgs to xml

Just not worth the hassle. With default MSFS data I never have any problems. There may be a few procedures or Approaches missing sometimes but not all Sids or Stars

The issue I have with MSFS default nav data is that too many approaches are missing to regional GA type airports.  Navigraph mostly corrects that, but I still have another issue with Navigraph.  Navigraph does not provide all of the approach points in its procedures.  If I recall my IFR fllght into KBUF, I was only given the choices I have circled in blue. Those I circled in red were not offered.  Flying drawn out approaches limited to like what are offered costs unnecessary time and fuel and are not realistic for lighter aircraft.  It seems what Navigraph offers is for tubeliners and not supportive of lighter aircraft that would turn at the IAF points, including the offer of a course reversal at TRAVA.

These approach points (red) are all in the databases used by Garmin in their trainers, and accordingly in addon avionics such as the GNS and GTN models offered by Reality XP.  Yet another reason why Asobo needs to open up the SDK so that our proven developers can bring us what we need for true simulation.

Not sure what's going on there for you, but those show up using the latest Navigraph data in Little Navmap, at  least.

That's with Navigraph data directly installed in LNM.   If I just use the database it creates from the FS scenery with Navigraph installed there it looks slightly different but the points are there.

I haven't checked to see if these show up in the sim, but they're there in the data, at least.
