So as a dev for FBW you'll probably earn more than a pilot flying the actual plane these days. 😛

Good luck!

I've just checked the salary. That is a pretty mad scenario ha.

Yeah or mine in Cobol, Digital (DEC) Basic, Digital Dibol and ICL Plan.  Now I bet that nobody on here has heard of ICL Plan and possibly not DEC Dibol?  Now that's showing my age 😄

Actually we do still run some Digital Alphas with VMS on them for genetic analysis but they are way overdue for replacement.

yeah I think my skills in Fortran 77 and Cobol are not overly relevant anymore either

Maybe not in this case, but overall this should be valuable, right? Everyone can code Java or Python, but only few still know Cobol. 😉

Happy with MSFS 🙂

You may be more right than you know...  either that or you're already aware of the recent increases in demand for COBOL programmers. 🙂   Many of the folks who know it are aging out of the workforce, but the systems they built aren't, and the demand has really heated up in the past few years.

Learning COBOL and getting a nice quiet job keeping legacy systems in a bank or airline somewhere running smoothly has long been one of my plans for when I no longer feel like keeping up with the constant grand of staying ahead of technology and just want something useful and stable that I can build my retirement on without much bother.

I'm not there yet, I still love the new and ever-changing, but maybe someday.  😄

In fact, our algorithms & data structures professor told us that exact same thing. 😄

I used to work on main frame 26 years ago. It started like a car with key and held under certain temperature ! LOL Also we had to backup entire system on tapes twice a day! Sweet memory! 🙂

I think we are really lucky to have WT and FBW and others. This sim has an exciting future.

We're getting to that phase of MSFS where adults in the room are being separated from the boys. The early days seemed great and we were soaking up literally anything new. "JUST RELEASED 4.5 and 1/4thK CLOUD ADDON!!"

We're starting to see now the leaders of  new deep level development starting to stand out and the rest of the bandwagon  will end up as SimMarket Overpriced Junk Hall Of Famers
