Flysimware Grumman Widgeon out

beta 1.3 is available to download.

This fixed the exterior LOD models so you can see the animations as you zoom out.

All gauges are now working.

=========================

Next we are fixing the missing bulbs from the interior models as they were working before.

Clock backlight stuck on.

Clickable panel lights from the red lamp housings knob. The overhead panel works for now.

Engine cools down too fast.

And we will read and check any reported issues.

=======================

This video demonstrates a demo of our custom checklist that allows you or the copilot to complete the checklist step.

Anyone find the altimeter or the prop and mixture levers?

So far, I have been unsuccessful in a manual start, have to start on the rwy if I want to fly. Overall I like it but it would be nice to have all the parts. 🙂

Try using the checklist to see what you're doing wrong.

From the link you posted:

Turn & Slip Indicator:

Preflight Actions:

  • Should indicate a bank in the direction of taxi turns
  • The ball should deflect outward from the turn

The comment above that the ball should deflect outward from the turn is a preflight test during taxi to make sure the ball is not stuck. It deflects outward, which normally indicates a skid, because you can't bank the wings (roll the a/c) while taxiing. In a coordinated turn in flight the ball will be centered. It has been a loooong time, but I can still hear my instructor -- "step on the ball to coordinate your turn"!

I dug up this reference when your time permits,  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turn_and_slip_indicator,   which says:

Inclinometer

Coordinated flight indication is obtained by using an inclinometer, which is recognized as the "ball in a tube". An inclinometer contains a ball sealed inside a curved glass tube, which also contains a liquid to act as a damping medium. The original form of the indicator is in effect a spirit level with the tube curved in the opposite direction and a ball replacing the bubble.[5] In some early aircraft the indicator was merely a pendulum with a dashpot for damping. The ball gives an indication of whether the aircraft is slipping, skidding or in coordinated flight. The ball's movement is caused by the force of gravity and the aircraft's centripetal acceleration. When the ball is centered in the middle of the tube, the aircraft is said to be in coordinated flight. If the ball is on the inside (wing down side) of a turn, the aircraft is slipping. And finally, when the ball is on the outside (wing up side) of the turn, the aircraft is skidding".

May be you right. I have never flown with older TS. Some time ago I watched some old  training films and if I'm no mistaken there was gauge similar TS basically but showed deflection opposite of the turn on "the bottom"

Follow up! Actually you are right! I was thinking about something else from WWI era I think 🙂

For a plane I didn't know existed until  a couple of days ago I am enjoying the heck out of it...this is why I love flight simming.

For example, when in a left turn the ball moves out to the right, but 'stepping on the ball' (stepping on the right rudder) to center the ball then stops the turn as if the intent was to put the a/c into a cross control slip. I'd like to know if anyone else is seeing this, or if the problem is just something with my setup (or me!).

Update: This appears to be a fight dynamics issue and Fysimware is working on a fix (along with the other issues that need some attention as outlined above).

I watched couple videos on YouTube and it looks like we are missing two prop levelers next two throttles?

Early models of the Widgeon had two-blade, wooden, fixed pitch props. I read that if you didn't fly this version of the a/c very often the props could warp thus changing their pitch! The wooden props were eventually replaced with metal ones, and eventually the a/c was upgraded to constant speed props.

Thanks for the reply as our beta is usually complete but always needs a few tweaks. And that is why i prefer to release a beta than a product tested only by a few beta members.

i have been working on the flight dynamics all day today as i actually used a real pilot who helps a few Companies with the cfg setup. We spoke yesterday and he stated that with all the years of experience i have with setting up the variables he suggested i might want to do this myself as he felt he did not get this close to the real bird.

I found there was a ton of issues and after today i will be releasing a new beta and you will agree this new setup is a huge improvement. I could post all the things improved but i will let the new version speak for itself.

I will suggest before takeoff place the elevator and aileron trim to the suggest arrows. This is now spot on. Also the engine power was lowered so that the manifold at 20-22 pressure is the suggested range for cruise at level flight. Also the stick controls are all updated as i lowered the elevator effectiveness increased the aileron and the rudder i think is about the same.

The turn and bank gauge is coded correctly the issue was the flight dynamics. Please see my new post above as we are over hauling the entire flight dynaincs the flight dynamics.

I haven't flown Widgeon IRL but had my suspicions about power setting and seemingly very power engine. Good to hear you found an expert who flown it! Now it sounds rights!

I have an issue where I can set the elevator trim  before start but as soon as I turn on the avionics switch the trim needle returns to straight up and trim is now inoperable. This happens with the avionics switch on the panel and the bus one switch on the honeycomb alpha.

I also noticed something odd how the trim was maxing out one day. But has not done it since. I am not sure its the avionics switch as no matter what i do with V1.3 it does not happen. Can you confirm this happens with beta 1.3 and explain exact steps to reproduce this bug. Thanks.

I downloaded Beta 1.3 again and re-installed it. Started msfs with the widgeon as the first aircraft and had the same issue as in my last post. Back to the start page and loaded the default C172 G1000 no problems with the trim. Back to the Widgeon and the same issue. Shut down msfs and restart with the Wigeon already selected and same issue with elevator trim
