June 14, 20215 yr At the height of MS's flightsim popularity, MS combat sim did a fraction of what flightsim did. There is no way MS is going to do another combat sim. The money would not be there and there is waaaaay too much competition.... streamed scenery or not.
June 14, 20215 yr Even DCS, with a limited map size, sometimes struggles even with today’s high end components. Here you’ve got the whole Earth to fly. Now you have to add ground and air combat AI, destructible buildings, aircraft, vehicles, etc. Good luck trying to play that. What MS can feasibly do, is retain historically accurate weapons and mounts on the models. For whatever reason, that’s not allowed on the Marketplace, so why would anyone think they’d be interested in adding combat simulation?

Looks like your message was stamped "14 min ago", but this is really a post from Aug 2020 isnt it? ... must be a glitch... 🤔 It still needs work, especially when they keep breaking things that were previously working.

Its debatable if the qualifier "keep" is appropriate anymore. The last sim update was very successful and the new work by WT and others on board has dramatically shifted the momentum in the right direction. As I indirectly implied with my lame attempt at humor, I think its time to start evaluating Asobo's progress on where things are going now, and not continually rehash outdated sentiments.

All the evidence and progress of the past month flies in the face of your theory. Feel free to continue your outrage if you like. Saner minds will keep enjoying the sim and be thankful that there are talented teams setting a new bar for our hobby that the others will be measured against. It’s a pretty exciting time!
June 15, 20215 yr It would be cool if they could make the ground textures good enuff to make a first person shooter in the msfs world
June 15, 20214 yr This isn't really something new to the MSFS franchise. Keep in mind the FSX Acceleration Pack back in the day gave you a F-18 as well. Is it done yet? When will it be released? Will it be freeware or payware? How much will it cost? Any updates on the progress? Will it work for Xbox? Can I be a beta tester? How's the performance in VR?
June 15, 20214 yr Live service titles are extremely popular these days due to the consistent revenue stream they provide based off a moderate initial investment then really just upkeep and smaller DLC releases after that. Microsoft & Asobo are in a great position here, unlike videogames they don't need to go crazy with the content releases - they really only need to focus on the foundation systems, stability patches and a few of the major wishlist items from the community. Undoubtedly the biggest content for simmers are new aircraft and in this area the 3rd party market and community developers have this taken care off so Asobo can continue to focus on the sim engine and the wishlist items I previously mentioned - when you consider that Microsoft/Asobo are taking a 30% cut off every item sold in the marketplace you will quickly realize that they have a large incentive to support this title for years to come. That is because it was pretty awful with semi arcade flight models based on Hollywood myth rather than historical accuracy. IL2 Sturmovich left it for dead at the time. IL2 had vastly better FMs and far more aircraft to choose from, something like 300 official aircraft in the final versions and all free.
