If I read this all right, they will deliver nicely modeled carrier and Tomcat (with probably a questionable flight model) and a couple of ‘challenges’ like landing on the ship, buzzing the tower (but will they model the sonic boom 😃?), flying inverted etc.. FSX had a F-18, P3D a F-35, MFS will have a F-14. Nothing to send shivers in DCS spine. The only thing really new, and that I find it quite interesting, is that MS sells MFS as a billboard to a third party. With realistically destroyable photogrammetry? Being able to shoot down other civilian AI traffic? Come on... I don't see that, to be brutally honest. As already mentioned - if you're SO longing for that, get DCS with their F/A-18 or F-16 along with it 🙂 Of course a combat simulator and MSFS would be two separate products and on two separate servers. People could grief if they could fly a military jet and shoot down somebody that just wants to fly a civilian plane. The destruction of photogrammetry can be done with Blackshark AI's help. DCS World is expensive when they charge your $30 to $50 a pop for each separate scenery. No thanks, I prefer it if Microsoft can come out with a combat flight simulator where I get the entire world scenery for free, like we do in MSFS right now. i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM

But right now it is hard to imagine they can use photometry to replicate world as it was for example in WW2! 🙂 So they can make a modern combat flight simulator first. It would use the same satellite & photogrammetry that MSFS uses since it's the modern era. i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM

Now you have to add ground and air combat AI, destructible buildings, aircraft, vehicles, etc. Good luck trying to play that. What MS can feasibly do, is retain historically accurate weapons and mounts on the models. For whatever reason, that’s not allowed on the Marketplace, so why would anyone think they’d be interested in adding combat simulation? Again, I'm not sure why people like you think a combat flight simulator has to be in the same world as MSFS or even an add-on for MSFS. A combat flight simulator can be a totally separate product, played on a separate server than MSFS. Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator was a separate product than FSX back in the day. There is no reason the next combat flight simulator from Microsoft can't be a separate product on a separate server. But of course, it can reuse the same base code as MSFS. June 15, 20214 yr Why not both? They have the power to concur both 'markets' so to speak and i for one would love a combat side to this Sim. From the video clip we saw it won't be a Tomcat though as they only showed the F-18 but maybe they'll surprise us. Even if they do give us both I can't imagine them being very detailed. The Tomcat in particular would be difficult as when you fly the DCS version it has quite a few quirks. But it's a free expansion so all good.

June 15, 20214 yr More planes for MSFS? Great! Free? Great! Will it replace DCS in my games eco-system? Not a chance! I have not been on DCS much in the last few months because I have been on MSFS...but that is because I have been enjoying flying and not being shot out of the sky. Two different experiences. I will not invest in a MS combat simulator for the same reason I haven't bought the Christian Eagle in DCS, different sims have different strengths. Microsoft "Flight Simulator" and Digital "Combat" Simulator. That said, if you have a smaller budget (DCS, as all sims, is expensive) then "pew pew" in MSFS could be fun.
