Future of MSFS? Commercial market or combat flight sim?

Featured Replies

For sure, flight sim has come along way in the past 30 years and the rate at which tech is increasing exponentially, it will double again in a matter of years, not decades.

We can’t even imagine where it will be in years to come. Maybe we will be simming between galaxies, complaining that the live intergalactic cosmic winds are not accurate. Joking maybe, maybe not….😁

Future is bright for this sim!

Lets let them get Flight Simulator working properly first. I'm not all in for combat we have DCS for that.

It’s crazy that I have to pay $30 (or was it more?) for each separate DCS scenery.  If you want to get all the sceneries, DCS adds up after a while.

Also, DCS isn’t streaming the entire world using satellite & photogrammetry the way MSFS is.

If Microsoft can make a decent combat simulator where the entire world can be streamed to your PC, and I don’t have to pay extra for that, I will pick the Microsoft version any day.  It’s a no brainer.

i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM

The idea is nice but for the professional world the SDK needs to be way more enhanced than now.

It has to support all hardware in a Level D simulator. That is still far away.

P3D does support it. But who knows what will be coming.

But my guess is that MSFS stays for the consumermarker only. And they might license it to accompanies  like LM / Boeing / Airbus ….

You DCS folks are annoying....

Go enjoy your DCS sim and quit expecting others to care.

Everything regarding anything remotely related to a military fighter aircraft mod or expansion and we have to hear a "why don't you just buy DCS" recruit campaign or how "we are silly for wanting to fly a fighter jet with no functioning weapons systems in a predominately civilian flight sim"😒

I seriously (like seriously) doubt, that they'll make a Combat Sim out of MSFS! It's not in their lineup, as far as I can tell...

A couple of highly detailed military aircraft, would be amazing. And being able to perform carrier operations etc would be really nice! But the thought of having weapons and being able to shoot anything? Forget it. And how would that go? With realistically destroyable photogrammetry? Being able to shoot down other civilian AI traffic? Come on... I don't see that, to be brutally honest.

As already mentioned - if you're SO longing for that, get DCS with their F/A-18 or F-16 along with it 🙂

I agree, for weapons we have DCS. Yet it is fully inconsequent to implement an addon with the obvious theme of fighter jets as Top Gun then, for the sake of money they already ignore their principles obviously...

I truly can't imagine Asobo making a combat sim out of this.

If one listens to the team during interviews and streams, they have a very clear idea and vision about their product, which mostly seems to revolve about the fascination and joy of flight as well as exploring the world.

I can't see Jörg Neumann taking this in a combat-oriented direction at all.

I can see Asobo/Microsoft making a combat sim, if there's money to be made it would be stupid not to.

What about putting everything together, truck simulator, train simulator, bus simulator, ship simulator etc. I mean, would be awesome to see everything working on the same platform. But yeah, right now it’s just a dream.

A dream ? I would say this is exactly what the type of things they have in mind, among other things. This sim is a demonstrator for many other products to come including (but not only)  transportation games.

That would have to be called “Planet Earth Simulator”. It will require a nVidia RTX 9 million-and-ninety-nine Ti GPU and a terabyte of DDR 9000 RAM at a gazillion Mhz.
So in other words, it is not just a dream, it’s right around the corner!😁

Wloch referred several times to the MFS underlying plateform as a Twin Earth project, just sayin'.

Why would it need super-computers ?  The user computer just need to process what the user can see or interact with..

Indeed, after all for many years MS has had two lines of products, a civilian sim and a combat sim. And the VC was implemented first in CFS ! But it is a whole new ball game : AI NPC (aircraft, AAA, C2 etc.), ballistics etc.

I personally liked MCFS back in a day. But right now it is hard to imagine they can use  photometry to replicate world as it was for example in WW2! 🙂

I wonder if, by "year 9" or so, they will have located someone who can code a simple autopilot for GA planes.

I just consider that sort of a benchmark in deciding what is a flight simulator versus what is a groping attempt to impersonate one.

If you can't even get the basics right, you'll never have much to work with -- no matter how pretty it becomes.

Yeh!  I'd create a Tehachapi Loop add on for that one....

I think there's a bug in Avsim's forum date /time stamp on your post.  Looks like your message was stamped "14 min ago", but this is really a post from Aug 2020 isnt it?

... must be a glitch...  🤔
