"The update will start rolling out to consumer PCs in fall 2021, Windows Insider beta testers can download the pre-release version early next week."

I thought MS told us Windows 10 would be it for new builds of Windows.  Upgrading over an existing version of Windows has not been good in the past meaning all of us at some point will be forced to upgrade to keep using FS2020.  With that means totally wiping out our existing setup for a fresh install of Windows 11.  Some are fine with this but for me I'm not crazy about the idea especially when I was told this wouldn't be something we'd have to deal with near future. 😣🙁

Oops, I see there is already a thread on this...

Windows insiders say it handles threading better than W10 and smoother.

And the game pass app is installed by default.

That's an awful lot of speculation about how the update/upgrade is going to work.  I haven't seen anything about wiping everything and starting from scratch.  While that's the route I would take anyway, it doesn't seem to be a requirement at all.

Actually, there were many cases where a Windows 7 or Windows 8 computer was treated to the free upgrade to Windows 10 and the computer's performance decreased.  With other computers, the upgrade resulted in a fully functional Windows 10 computer.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Windows 10 was also far more resource intensive than 7/8 so PC's that were running 7/8 fine were potentially at the very bottom end of acceptable for 10.  As you said though, for some it was hit, for others it was miss so the assumption we will have to wipe out MSFS to support Windows11 is a huge assumption right now.

A rule of thumb since Windows has been in existence is a clean install of a new OS is always better than an upgrade over an existing OS.  When the time comes where I'm forced to upgrade I would start from scratch only this time I'd buy another computer and be done with it.  Transfer my files from the old computer (Docs, pics, etc), install office, and any other utilities I use.  The beauty in what we have today with FS is the 'Community Folder' is all that we have to worry about (no tweaking required).  In the past there was so much you would have to do and reconfigure with FS we don't have to worry about now.  I'd just let Windows 11 get released, sit on the market for awhile, watch the advancement of new machines built specifically for 11, and when the word goes out FS2020 will no longer but supported under Windows 10 buy a new screaming rig built specifically for Windows 11 and go from there. Once you install FS2020, copy over my community folder, and adjust a few settings for joystick programming your done. 😉

I just ran the PC Health Check test to see if my machine is capable of running Windows 11. The answer came back "This PC can't run windows 11" with no explanation as to why not. If this box won't run 11 I don't know what will.

I'm suspicious by nature. As invasive and meddling as Windows 10 has become, I can't imagine 11 will be more benign. Given the data mining opportunities for Edge and Bing, and the up-sell to their cloud products, I'm surprised they're asking money for it. At least if it's a paid product so they're not going to sneak it in as an automatic "update."

We wont have to worry till 2025 boys. We have until then until we are forced to upgrade. Its free too, by the way, for W10 owners.

Thanks. All I can say is WNA. I can't enable TPM. It won't enable because there is no chip installed. I have to wonder how many other folks have the same issue, i.e., a recent, top-notch mobo that comes only with only the TPM header and no chip. Seems to me this is going to be a major issue.
