Thanks. All I can say is WNA. I can't enable TPM. It won't enable because there is no chip installed. I have to wonder how many other folks have the same issue, i.e., a recent, top-notch mobo that comes only with only the TPM header and no chip. Seems to me this is going to be a major issue.

AMD or Intel?  What Mobo?

I just ran the PC Health Check test to see if my machine is capable of running Windows 11. The answer came back "This PC can't run windows 11" with no explanation as to why not. If this box won't run 11 I don't know what will.

I'm not even sure if my Maximus XII Hero has TPM, still haven't built the PC. Or if its just the socket. If just the socket, you can buy the module itself. I would imagine cheap. I have heard that if the TPM chip fails you need a special key to decrypt your PC. I'm not too happy about that if true.

Edit: Only £12.98. Gigabyte, not sure if they are universal.

No socket needed. Using any recent chip it should be on board, you just need to search the bios for PTT - and enable it. Worked for me when I checked by running tpm.msc from the command prompt.

Thanks. As I say, still haven't got around to building the PC.😁 Nice to know I have it.

It is in fact not an issue at all. You don't need the chip. You only need to find the BIOS setting for Intel PTT and enable that. There is an AMD equivalent and Intel based PCs have had this feature for over five years.

I got all that a few hours back thank you. But as I said, this is going to be a major issue. How many joe-average users even know what a BIOS is much less how to update one. I'll bet that not 5% of the worlds Windows 10 users have even a clue. Even M$ is beginning to recognize problem. I've been building my own PC's for 20 years now and I had never heard of either TPM or PTT until yesterday. Maybe I'm just an old over-the-hill ex-DOS user dummy but I still think it's going to be a major problem.

I had never heard of it either but I would think that Microsoft will need to make the requirement a bit clearer, as it clearly does not require TPM at all, but it does require an equivalent. I would guess that in the world of programming, where things like soft and hard floors have a new definition, unknown to the rest of the world, someone will eventually realise that they need to explain what to do instead of just stating a requirement that in fact does not exist.

So, what new "features" of Windows 11 will blow me away with their necessity and desirability? I am thinking "none" here, but hey........surprise me, guys

I suspect you are correct. I just ran tmp.msc and got this message:

Quote

Compatible Trusted Platform  Module (TPM) cannot be found on this computer. Verify that this computer has a 1.2 TPM or later and it is turned on in the BIOS.

I'm forced to wonder why this is not enabled by default? I foresee that this is going to be a huge bucket of slimy worms. Heck, I've just begun feeling a bit more comfortable with Win10 after having decades of experience with previous Windows versions.

EDIT: I forgot to add that I do not like the new "Microsoft Edge" at all. I can't seem to get rid of these obnoxious, random popup and "new windows" that open up with random mouse clicks.

I do however really like that all of my custom task bar shortcuts are automatically mirrored to every computer on my network that has MS Edge. That is pretty cool actually!

Quoted from:  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/information-protection/tpm/trusted-platform-module-overview

"Starting with Windows 10, the operating system automatically initializes and takes ownership of the TPM. This means that in most cases, we recommend that you avoid configuring the TPM through the TPM management console, TPM.msc."

A slimy bucket indeed. And not just of worms........

Should be there by default.

Check Secure Boot

Check PTT it enabled, I think it's under (Advanced\PCH-FW)

As for your post above, we aren't doing this with TPM.MSC within the OS, we are enabling it by default in the Bios.   No Slimy bucket at all.

I don't have a Trusted Platform Module but I do have Intel PTT, now enabled in the BIOS from the default disabled. This is the result of running TPM.msc:
