Fenix confirm they are using ProSim for A320

Hey @everyone. We've seen the article posted here and elsewhere, whilst a lot of the assumptions made have started to tail into baseless speculation, we do indeed have a license with ProSim to utilise and modify elements of their simulation software, and are building upon that to bring something much more desktop-oriented and more in line with what PC simmers are used to. By default we respect the privacy of our legal agreements and avoid discussing the various licensing agreements we have unless it functionally affects the future viability of the product (e.g. navdata etc). Happy to answer further questions in #ask-us  within reason!

This was a very good guess by Matt from Working Title, who speculated here in the Avsim forum shortly after the Fenix A320 announcement, that they were using ProSim.  So now, we can put the rumors to rest about Fenix and Prosim.

My curiosity is, would that prevent Fenix from developing the A321 and A319 very quickly, after they release the A320.  I suppose if Fenix has permission to modify ProSim's code, it's possible to do the A321 and A319.  But I wonder how difficult and time consuming it would be.

ProSim platform that means that would be really a high fidelity add-one no questions.  found it pretty smart from Fenix to utilize something good out there instead of building that from scratch that will take years to make.

I wonder how is expensive the commerical ProSim license 😅

Hmm, PMDG are going to release the 737 probably within a few months.  And the PMDG 737 will be very high fidelity.  Of course Fenix could make an even higher fidelity 737 if they use ProSim.  But I would think the PMDG 737 would cut into the sales of a potential Fenix 737.

That's for home use , Euro 1500 + 100 yearly update fee.

Commercial license is Euro 25000 + 3000 yearly update fee.

With regard to making an A319 or an A321, essentially these are just shorter and longer versions of the A320. Systems-wise there's not a lot of difference which is why they share a common type rating. I'm not suggesting it would be a five minute job to knock up the other variants since they are different in terms of FMC settings for range and weight etc, but I think it would be mostly akin to making a 737-700, 800 and 900 having stared out with an 800. The SOP manual for the A321CEO is three extra pages inserted into a ring binder for the A320 SOP manual, and those extra pages are mostly concerned with its turning circle on the ground when taxying and the need to be a bit more cautious about the deck angle when rotating the A321 if you are used to the A320.

The A318 is a different matter. Like the diminutive 737-600 (aka the 'wobblin goblin') the A318 has different flight characteristics and a different overhead to facilitate its certification for steep approaches, but for the other A320 variants, there's comparatively little to do in terms of development.

Well, Aamir said in that Discord post that Fenix has the rights to modify the ProSim code.  If it’s not too hard for Fenix to modify the ProSim code, an A319 or A321 look like the most logical releases for Fenix next in MSFS.

That’s 3 planes that will take revenue away from FSLabs, assuming FSLabs has plans to come to MSFS, which they likely do.

Prosim is a company that makes software for the systems of the A320 and 737. It’s the systems and no visual model. They have commercial clients that use their software for their own company’s pilot training. Homecockpit builders also purchase. Fenix, has licensed the software code from them, and is adding a visual model + adding more features to the base ProSim for desktop users in MSFS. In a nutshell, Prosim is as top tier as it gets.

Essentially, ProSim is to the A320 what Aerowinx PSX is to the 747-400. PSX is also very well suited to home cockpit builders. The license for PSX home use is considerably less costly than Prosims’s but a commercial license might well be in the same range that Prosim charges. Hardy does not discuss his pricing model for professional use.

I hope not...I'm depending on Fenix supporting Skalarki hardware to avoid putting mine up for sale...the discussed Skalarki support for the FBW A320 seems to have gone very quiet.  I love my Skalarki MCDU and FCU but it's a lot of money to have tied up in something collecting dust on my shelf.

Having flown Prosim 737, it's...kianda broken....The VNAV have even more bugs than PMDG (I have heared it's been fixed but not yet tried), and there are quite some issue with FMC and Electric system, while hard to trigger in normal operation, but can be spot when doing the Post Delivery Flight Procedure.

Well, of course PMDG have it's bugs too. but as my experience, they are not difference by much in fidelity level, rather one is for desktop, and one is for cockpit build.
