August 12, 20214 yr I have been switching around with different aircraft since Su5 and the hot fixes, and I discovered something. I enjoy flying the Seminole and JF Arrow because it allows me to see the scenery really up close as I fly. When I fly the DC6, although it is a great plane to fly, I find that at the typical altitudes of high teens, the scenery doesn't look as great as it does at several thousand feet. . Wonder if anyone else feels that way about the views in MSFS at lower altitudes.

In previous sims I was always a high altitude airline type simming, since msfs, I’m loving the low level flying, All flights are in GA below 10k. I personally enjoy it more between 3 and 10k. August 12, 20214 yr I must admit, although I love the DC 6, being that "gamer" type of simulator player, screaming along the ground in VR in a Pitts is what makes this game enjoyable

August 12, 20214 yr Thanks for the recommendation! Installing my 3090 to replace my 2070S tonight.. That plane reminds of the old purple control line. 049 I had as a kid. Hope it bounces off the ground better lol.

August 12, 20214 yr Am excited. Own a custom pc shop, and the cards have been dribbling in on allocation for a while now, built a bunch for customers, but like a shoemaker, last to get a new pair haha. Love the handle. Remember watching the movie on a 19" black and white at the parent's cottage in a thunderstorm. Lightning bolt hit ours and neighbors antennas, blew the picture tube, thunder was instantaneous, and all went dark. My grandfather walked inside, and said "that was close!"

(Not previously a mission I've flown much of in my sim career to date). At 1500' the scenery is generally breathtaking At 2500' it looks like Orbx True Earth For X-Plane (still good) At 4500' It starts to look a little lacking in quality; getting a touch blurry and undefined Above 8500' To me it doesn't particularly look any better than Ortho4XP scenery in X-Plane (common-or-garden photographic scenery). This of course just reflects my own settings (HIGH with some MEDIUM, as a 1080Ti user). My grandfather took me to see it in the theater, it was glorious on the big screen.
August 12, 20214 yr At 8000 ft irl the scenery can be a little blurry too haha. Launched it, a series of climbs and dives was the immediate result, and the last dive, was the last flight of that .049 control line.
August 12, 20214 yr Agree 100% and it's why we made a heli 😆 I love my GA aircraft, I can't even pick a favorite. I've taken to flying airliners between major cities, then hopping in our heli or a GA to take in the local scenery. My name is Steve and I prefer hand flying. August 12, 20214 yr Must admit most of my time is spent at aprox 1000ft agl in the Bell 47. The detail and resolution is just so good in this sim at low level it's an absolute pleasure to spend my time down that low. I do love the DC-6, but faced with the choice of a proper flight in that beast or an hour skimming the rooftops and treetops in the Bell and checking out the fantastic PG cities/towns (US/Germany/Japan especially.. some great quality PG.. UK not so much) there's only one winner. I was watching a concert earlier from Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The though occurred that i should check it out in the sim. Had a fantastic fly over there and there it was in all it PG glory! (and may i say wow, lucky people who live around there.. beautiful area!) Landed my heli at the top of the seating area and thought we really are blessed with this sim if you love low and slow. It's amazing.. when its working 😉
August 13, 20214 yr One good thing about the DC6 is flying low does not incur as much of a fuel penalty as a jet. I usually fly only high enough to clear terrain. Side note, flying the DC6 in VR is breathtaking, especially down low in a mountainous area. Try one of the cabin window views with mountains passing by, just wow. I don't understand people buying scenery and then flying up in the blue yonder in the clouds. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
