MSFS Stability Reality

Featured Replies

I bought my new prebuilt machine (see my sig below) on 2/2/2021 and installed MSFS soon after.  Since then I have had 10 MSFS application hangs and 6 of those occurred on 8/6/2021 (not sure why) with the last on 8/19/2021.

I am assuming that an application hang (event viewer) is similar or the same as a CTD.  My point here is that this is a dedicated computer that is always current with the latest Windows Home updates and has only one additional application installed - MSFS.  (ok 2 I have Microsoft Mahjong installed also)

I will admit that my community folder has but 8 packages installed and these have been fully vetted.  Microsoft Store purchases amount to 3 aircraft and 4 scenery packages so I guess that I am a lightweight when it comes to addons but my motto is less is more.

Anyway, given my history of MSFS crashes I consider MSFS to be a stellar piece of work which is why I am such a big fan as well as luving what it has to offer.

My goal with this thread is to moderate the constant CTD banter we see here so often so that some can appreciate how stable the MSFS platform is and can be.

To all those struggling, you are being heard and hope you realize that it can be much better.

Regards

bs

It's good that it is very stable on your PC. In the last week it has been stable on mine as well. What did I change?

I added some packages. All freeware.

The fact that now it is stable on your and my PC (and probably on others' as well) doesn't solve the problem. And does not turn the reality of those who cannot finish a flight into "ctd banter". In order to solve the problem some fixes by the developers will be needed. They are working on them.

And hopefully they will not break it for me (and you).

Oh I forgot to mention that my internet connection is generally abysmal but we all have our crosses to bear.

Cheers

I too am one of the lucky ones. I don’t know why but of course I am not complaining. Given my ageing PC, performance of the sim is rather astounding and as of right now, finding it hard to justify investing in new hardware. If it works, don’t fix it as they say.

The CTD’s are a real problem for far too many people though and even the Xbox gang are getting them. MS and Asobo need to get on top of this and have to iron these things out quickly, as over time, this could kill it for many otherwise enthusiastic simmers. Nothing worse that a CTD on short final after a 2 hour flight. Makes you feel like you just wasted 2 hours of your life that you will never get back.

Wow, I wasn’t aware that the Xbox users were getting crashes also. That’s problematic considering you can’t do anything to alter a console or it’s operating system.

They have been reporting crashes since day 1.

For those who have had very few issues since SU5 compared to others, are you running the Steam or MS Store version?

Whenever I land at an airport, I lose all control of the aircraft. ATC instructs me to taxy to general aviation parking, and my AI pilot just goes ahead and does it. I have no control on where the AI pilot goes. Too bad if I wanted to taxy to the runway threshold and depart again. This is with autopilot turned off. Anyone else experiencing this ?

Steam version.

I had three CTDs in my first 5 flights in SU5. I disabled the developer mode and reset my rolling cache and haven't had a crash since. I guess I've been lucky. I only have the WT CJ4 installed. All flights have been on vatsim.

I had some CTD's with the stock VFR map until WU4, none if I didnt use it.

After SU5 I had crashes on startup with the FBW 320 until that issue was fixed.

And 1 CTD as I was teleporting around the world as a test.

I mostly fly the Xcub and ones in a while the FBW a320.

For me MSFS is stable

I think how you use the sim is a big factor.  I generally fly the Daher and G36 out in the boonies so low impact planes and low scenery memory requirements.

This latest release has been the least stable so far... especially the server side errors

MS Store version.

Just one CTD in dozens of sessions (and suspecting the FBW A320 as cause for that one CTD).

Still with the latest updates; when I start with FBW dev or change the aircraft to FBW dev, I generally face CTDs 😞  for the first attempt. After retsarting the sim, it runs.

(FBW is almost the only aircraft that I fly at the moment as an airliner simmer.)
