Well, it took all night but I do have it up and running.

I took the Bora Bora discovery trip and landed in the water somewhere.

Looks pretty cool so far. Not a fan of the music but I suspect that’s on the discovery trips only.

The UI music can be switched off in the settings.

Huh?  I have lots of AI traffic--including in airports--just depends on which airports.

If you're coming from P3D, you'll be stunned at just how good the stock airports are, many of which are customised by Asobo.  I have almost no need for any 3rd party airports in fact of the 5 I bought initially (because I assumed I needed them based on years w/ FSX/P3D), I've uinstalled 3!  3 of the paid for airports left out an important feature I used regularly which is why I uninstalled them.  The only airports I will ever buy are ones I'm intimately familiar with there real world counterparts, which is very few.

MSFS was designed for installation mostly under the KISS model.  I mean that.  I bought mine thru the Store and don't do any of legacy antics from my decades in FSX/P3D in terms of installing core content here and content elsewhere--just use what MSFS installation suggests and keep it simple!  I don't have problems ever with any of it including installations, updates etc.  If you're bent on customizing your install just expect potential troubles here and there compared to simply using what MSFS employs to install and update.

The problem is I don't have space left on my C:\ drive for msfs AND possible addons. So I'm hoping for just being able to install the "core" MSFS on C:\ and everrrything else on an extern SSD drive.

So what's the minimum space that it needs on the C:\ drive?

Sure I understand Jorn.  I want to say my MSFS install is around 76Gb right now.  I'm just saying I believe many of the issues people have w/ the Store install has more to do w/ either misunderstanding how something works (for example the need to have the Xbox App installed) or doing customizations.  Not saying you can't but it's just a hunch I have that customizations increase the likelihood of troubles, that's all.

You can ask it to install to another drive, it uses very little space on the C drive in that case.

That is what I did... dedicated 500 GB SSD for MSFS.

4 MB on C Drive.

I'm glad you mentioned this, Glenn, because if you didn't I was going to have to.

The Virus is honestly one of my favorite stock planes, and is often the one I break out when I just want to fly around a given area and look at the scenery but want something with a little more oomph than an ultralight.

I use real air traffic and multiplayer and have crowded skies and airports

I disagree--I have the Steam version and I do value having never had to jump through the XBox app hoops experienced by many others with the MS Store version, or having had to deal with the encrypted store library file structures that the MS Store version uses.  Steam also makes having parallel installations on multiple machines a fairly straightforward proposition (only one can be active at a time, managed by signing in to the Steam interface on the machine in use). 

The MS Store interface is widely considered to be somewhat convoluted and not at all user-friendly--lots of hand-wringing and discontent over that on the various fora. 

I'd strongly recommend anyone contemplating getting into MSFS to go with the Steam version for those reasons...and it's even more compelling if you use other Steam titles and want a common interface.
