October 1, 20214 yr I just got done watching the movie “7500” on Amazon Prime. I am not going to spoil anything other than to say the whole movie was shot in the cockpit of an A319 and it was very, very well done. Excellent acting, probably the most realistic cockpit scene in a movie ever, and it is a thriller. It’s a must watch movie for the flight sim fan. October 1, 20214 yr Another movie which is very accurate on aviation is United 93. Not only is it an actual 757 cockpit and cabin but even the pilots, some of the flight attendants and some ATC controllers are real ones that work at the airline or worked on that day on the flights rather than actors/actresses. Doesn't get more accurate than that. That movie also hits hard though because it's very well done.

October 2, 20214 yr Nope. I can't watch what is tantamount to a reenactment of 20 years ago, no matter how realistic and well put together the aviation aspect is, for 'entertainment' value. Too upsetting even two decades later. Give me the aviation films Sully, Battle Of Britain or Apollo 13 instead. The original airport film was my favourite which was obviously done with a lot of inside knowledge, not just about the technical side of the operation but the personal interaction between different crew members and personality types was spot on. I too think I’m better off avoiding this one as it’ll put images in my head I don’t really want when I’m sat over the Atlantic on a dark night. I remember on one such dark night over the Atlantic I was sat quietly reading my latest copy of PC pilot when there was an almighty thud against the flight deck door as though someone was trying to kick it in to gain access. luckily , though not for the individual involved. It turned out a large elderly lady had come out of the toilet which on the 747 was right next to the flight deck door and promptly fainted. She head butted and smashed into the FD door on the way down. The excellent cabin crew rushed to her aid and I was soon appraised of the situation , but those few unknown seconds must have taken a couple of years off my life. 787 captain. October 2, 20214 yr Saw this movie a while back. It's not exactly a barrel of laughs, but it is a very good movie, especially in the way that the 'bad guy' is not just a one-dimensional cardboard cut out villain. Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
October 2, 20214 yr Watched it this afternoon. All I can say is that I know why Jon and F737NG have decided to avoid it. I'd especially like to see some survival type movies. For example, a group of friends head into the wild in a Cessna on a camping trip - perhaps with pilot guy not having quite completed his flight training yet, but thinking that he knows more than he actually does, and accompanied by his co-pilot Jack Daniels and some rather nervous and paranoid passengers. What could possibly go wrong. PS: Any Netflix script writers on Avsim? ;-)

PS: I just remembered an Argentinian 'black comedy' I saw earlier this year called Wild Tales. The film includes a story set on an airliner, and another about road rage and where it can ultimately lead (probably the funniest and most severe example of road rage ever depicted on-screen). The film obviously isn't for everyone, but taken as a fictional dark comedy -and with a pinch of salt - its a wild ride. Wild Tales (2014) Review_ 'Wildly thrilling. Wildly fun. Wildly original'. "This Argentine film [was] nominated for the 2014 Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award [and] comes to us from director Damián Szifrón who has crafted a feature film comprised of a series of 6 vignettes/small stories about human beings from all walks of (Argentine) life who are all tested and taken to their limits ... until they finally lose control.https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3011894/

Your's is a better and more amusing scenario than some 'entertainment' I've seen on Netflix recently.

I mean, take any fictional film, such as a bank robbery, or an Uber taxi hijack scenario. Most people probably wouldn't say of these films: "As if the banks / Uber don't already have enough problems getting business". That's because these films aren't documentaries but rather fiction; and if we went down the route of avoiding fictional films, and even TV programs and books, which portrayed any sort of menace or tension or violence, we'd end up with only love stories and lighthearted documentary films. Just my 2-cents worth
October 2, 20214 yr Moderator We need more films like “Airplane” but I’m not sure we have the scriptwriters or actors to deliver it. Comedy definitely in short supply these days.
