Actually they made it worse in a recent Update as access to filters is a two-tier process now (Space for more) ! The different points of view in this thread may come from how one uses the sim. I exclusively use Free Flight and the planner. Never the bush trips or discoveries or the training. I do not mind to see the large "activities" boxes but I do mind that preparing a flight involves so many back and forth with the filters if you use them at their full potential as I do. It is a powerful tool which is rather unfortunately very cumbersome and barely useable. Fortunately we have Little Nav Map tool bar but it is sad that we need an addon to prepare the basic of a flight in what is supposed to be the next gen sim. As to know Neuman's priorities... I am an user and I do not have to think about how he sees things. I even think, curiously, that it should be the other way around. Now back to preparing a flight where nobody has gone before 😄 ! October 17, 20214 yr I'm fine with the GUI in MSFS. Is it perfect? Nope, but it's a lot better than some others out there. Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

I don't get this POV, except I could do without Landmarks appearing on the WM which I most often toggle off first thing. Needs fixed, easy peasy to just stop resetting and leave the filters where the user last set them and I would predict this will quickly change in an upcoming SU. To start a flight plan: scroll the WM and find the departure airport, or type it in directly. Easy as pie. Next, select Details--brilliant! And/or, choose the type of gate from the dropdown. Easy! Next, choose the arrival airport, or type one in. Finally, choose the type of flight VFR or IFR. The only thing I miss here is IFR Direct, but this is easy to work around in midflight, but needs to be added. What exactly is so bad about WM screen? Being able to see cloud coverage in the WM is huge, especially compared to the 20y/o flight planner that I was used to in P3D. 4 hours ago, kt069 said: It is still hard for me to understand why MS / Asobo did not make improvements yet on some small items that seems to be easiy. Because they decided most important of all, initially, was to get the core scenery, lighting and atmospherics engine performing very well on a very wide range of hardware including a console. Apparently this takes a lot of work! Others in another thread bemoan the fact AI isn't using real airline liveries because it's the 'most important factor in immersion'. They forgot above AI liveries in the hierarchy of immersion comes the incredibly immersive scenery, atmosphere and lighting where real airline liveries are inserted--you know, what keeps us all in this thus far! There are a massive number of really well done airports that users just seem to brush over as a given. I just flew out of FACT in the impressive default B787 HD and that airport was stunningly well done. Easy peasy for 'modders' to do what they do because they don't play a role in the core engine nor even the basic plane like the B787 of which 99% was already done--they dart in and work on small pieces that have already been created then get massive accolades from users, whereas Asobo is nailed for not delivering perfection out of the gate. Put the project in context and you won't have a hard time understanding why the sim is where it is today, and getting better steadily. The guy in charge was obviously trying to do something « modern » instead of doing something useful. What really annoys me is the « open filters » menu of the World Map. To have to open and close it each time you want to change an option is a PITA. Apparently he/she doesn’t know about the tool icon bar concept... Well, the UI was obviously configured for Console use with a Controller... There should have been a separate UI developed for PC with a mouse and higher resolutions in mind. Heck, I would have settled for an exact copy of the FSX UI at this point! Chris Camp

Get the flight model better, get the ground handling better, open up weather/terrain radar for 3rd party devs, reduce the CTDs, etc. This has been mentioned before, but the UX / UI team are different from those working on the engine...that's literally their primary job. However I do see the hesitation in asking for any improvements because we've seen such regressions and catastrophic failures from seemingly unrelated parts of the sim breaking each other.
October 17, 20214 yr Thing about UI's is that you get used to them, which I did and now prefer no changes. Definitely not to an old school PC UI. October 17, 20214 yr Though parts of the UI are clumsy, such as even navigating to import flight plans, the main hair-pulling issue for me is the horrible controller options system. Having to change to saved settings for aircraft by clicking left /right arrows, then waiting for the system to refresh, then going to the next, then the next, then the next is mind-boggling - and that's with just a few aircraft! Down the road this access system will be a nightmare with even 10 aircraft, let alone 20-30! This could be so much better with just drop downs! A drop-down menu would instantly show all saved aircraft, you slide the mouse down and click on it and done! Randall Rocke

Slope/relief and speed bumps are two different things. The former is good, the latter bad. Having speed bumps in runways which you have on busy city streets to slow down Porches, Lamborghinis and muscle cars is simply ridiculous. 😂 Eliminating speed bumps would hopefully also result in road flattening in steep mountain roads. Did you read what I wrote : straight runways instead of bumpy runways … I did not mean sloped runways and not horizontal runways Take a handcrafted default airport like Amsterdam Schiphol and look in the distance on every runway. Get the flight model better, get the ground handling better, open up weather/terrain radar for 3rd party devs, reduce the CTDs, etc. For example, if a developer working on the UI is also capable of tracking down CTDs (which is very likely since tracking down CTDs can be a general software developer skill and isn't really a specialized skill), I would rather have this developer tracking down CTDs than fixing the UI. Maybe after 3 years, we can approach Asobo to fix the UI then? Until then, the UI is not a priority for me - as bad as the UI is, especially on the World Map screen, it's usable. There are just so many other high priority issues to fix. Get your point and share your sentiments.
