Deleting P3DV4.5

Featured Replies

Greetings,

I have had P3DV5.2 for seven weeks without a single flaw. I'm now ready to delete v4.5 but want to ensure there are no hidden items like Orbx scenery or other considerations prior to deletion.
On the other hand, I have X-Plane 11, P3DV4.5 and P3Dv5.2 all on the same 2TB SSD and in no hurry to acquire MSFS.

Are there any other considerations as it relates to v4.5 deletion?

When I updated I simply uninstalled the 3 P3D elements, copied my orbx library over and updated it through OC, and all my other scenery was XML I stalled so wasn't a problem.  I installed all a/c manually again but that took what, 20mins?

Depends on what you fly...the copious offerings of Orbx FTX Global freeware airports were ported over to v5, but not updated, so a good number of them have elevation issues, missing objects etc.  Orbx doesn't expect to update them due to the death of the author (Neil Hill).  So if you fly GA into those airports, keeping 4.5 around might be worthwhile.  Return to Misty Moorings is another extensive package that isn't v5-ready.

The REX/Milviz weather radar is not compatible with v5.2, so if you have acft that use that, the radar does still work in v4.5, and there are a few acft that still haven't made it to v5, and by now one has to wonder if they ever will (e.g. PMDG DC-6, Aerosoft DC-8).  There are also a small number of v4 airports that remain incompatible, mostly due to elevation and signage changes that came along with v5.

As noted previously by w6kd, something to seriously consider when moving over to P3D 5.xx is what favorite addon's (commercial or freeware) will you not be able to enjoy anymore. I left P3D 3.4xx for version 5.1. I lost some of my favorite Milviz addons as they are not fully compatible with version 5,xx. What looked promising at the beginning of this year when I installed 5.1 hf1 as far as vendors continuing to support P3D 5xx, now many are only supporting MSFS 2020. What is being said here is this, if you currently have some favorite addon scenery, aircraft or other items that work well in P3D 4.5 but will not in version 5.xx, you may want to consider keeping 4.5 installed in order that you can still enjoy them, if you're seriously considering installing P3D 5.xx.

My reply would be with Mr, w6kd and Raymie. I go back to 4.5 to compare sometimes. Its not hindering any sim so I just let it be. I fly 5.2 99%.

I have P3Dv4.5 installed on my gaming laptop and I'm considering to delete it completely. Since MSFS launch I should have fired up P3D three or four times. My best recommendation would be to move to MSFS even if it's still far from perfect.

Cheers, Ed

Still way too much missing in the way of basics in MSFS.

Sure it's shiny and nice for VFR, but otherwise what's the point if half the stuff I reguarly use is not in it.

Last week I installed P3D v5.2 to fly with maddog x, but only managed to make one flight. After the SU6 update it is very difficult to go back to using another simulator. Yesterday I took a flight arriving in EDDF with CATIII. Amazing experience.

@Les Parson, no other consideration. Recommend uninstalling what you installed in P3Dv4 (scenery, airplanes, etc.) and then uninstall P3Dv4.

Let's not open another P3D vs MSFS thread. If you're enjoying MSFS, great. P3D and MSFS are not religions or political parties. No need to recruit converts. Please continue helping others but do not convert. There are still avsim readers happily using FS9.

For deleting P3D v4.5, if you have GSX installed for both P3D versions, I would recommend not uninstalling the Addon Manager because this will be shared between v4.5 and v5.x.

Once removal is completed, it would not hurt to perform a Verify files or sim synch for your Orbx stuff installed for v5.

Thanks for the info. I'm a GA guy only, so don't have GSX.

This is my experience also. I'm a convert to MSFS (love your free NY scenery @edpatino, thank you!). BUT, I don't think I will ever remove P3D v4.5 in my main desktop PC or remove FSX Steam from my laptop. They still work great and i consider them as both great works of 'software art'.  And, HD storage is getting cheaper and faster everyday. I just hope they continue to be compatible with future versions of Wndows.

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).
