The guys have demoed the new XP12 volumetric clouds. So what do You think ?

While it is solid improvement, the lightning affects are still from 15 years ago.

...and there I was almost in shock that I almost saw a fully positive post from you

Looks fantastic to me, and also seems the ground textures got an upgrade as well.

From Youtube comments: " Please add better ground textures they look really outdated", "I said the same thing and he said "already done"."

but I guess not yet in this video, from Austins comment. But it is difficult to tell, the ground was only a few seconds in view.

Very nice!

Some sharp eyed user could read the framerate and apparently it is in the upper 20s which is not that great since Michael confirmed the resolution was set to 1080p and pc is based on an Intel 1070k and RTX 3070ti (linky) A lot of development and optimization to be done of course.

Based on this and the blog posts I don't expect XP12 to be officially released before H2 2022 or even early 2023. Am I being too pessimistic with this timeline, what do you guys think?

Ouch. There is no way you can run VR with that performance. At this point, there's almost zero chance I will buy XP12.

Twenties is even a pain if you're just running on screen. And just imagine you try running the Q4XP on that. That's a slideshow then.

Yikes.

You can't make that decision at this early stage of development. Once the demo of XP12 is released we will have all the pieces of the puzzle

I normally wouldn't disagree, but they already said that performance increases should not be expected and people who might "know" have been repeating that. Now the things they show seem to back that up.

I was hoping they were just saying that in order not to get expectations to high. But now it looks just like they were fully serious.

In MSFS, I can run the modded 787 and the FBW A320 fluidly in VR with zero issues. Now XP 12 isn't even going to reach the fps numbers MSFS shows in VR on screen. So seeing all this, I don't think I will need a demo anymore.

I just believe their statements now that they will not offer improved performance 😉

The last few seconds it gets clearer, agreed it's in the 20's.  That's with no scenery in frame.   Long long time before that thing is sim worthy.

Not what they said rather talked about better use of hardware, how can they promise better fps when they don't have any valid benchmarks yet? and even in this very video he is talking about lots of performance optmizations to come, if you even watched it..... I guess speculating and pre-mature conclusions go with the wishful thinking manner 😉

Going after what LR and their friends here stated on various past occasions now counts as speculating and premature conclusions?

What friends?

And you should re watch/read what LR said, the features are more GPU demanding. More hardware demands does not mean less FPS, it will probably mean that a GTX 1070 that had lots of spare time in v11 will need to sweat more in v12.

Performance and hardware can't be discussed yet and that's LR's official answer in the latest QA in their website. Optimizations, UI setting etc...all of this is yet to be done, they are still adding new features.

Why would that be? They show performance numbers, we discuss them. You don't need to be part of the discussion if you think it is not allowed to take place.

Who said that performance would go down, though? I (and most folks running sensible settings) get framerates in the 60s. While it is true that LR said that you should not expect framerates to improve with XP12...no one said that they will tank to the 20s, either.

Because they never talked about FPS at the Expo, and in fact they avoided questions. Anyone knows that is code for its going to be bad.  And now we have video proof (just!)  And no, dumbing down 3d clouds to get XP11 billboards is not a solution!
