XP 12 Sneak Peek (Clouds)

The most impressive 3d engine!  If I was the CEO of Google I would straight up buy this company and hook up the engine to Google earth data and real time weather / environment data and from there anything is possible.

Sounds like it's a ways off for being able to install and run it as a fully featured desktop simulator.  I wonder what it can do w/ satellite data?

I believe the videos I've posted are showing it can and even more. Really if you have the time, watched them in their entirety, it is eye opening and relegating the current tech we do have in our simulators looking like dated, even FS2020.

Sure it's great to see we're getting closer and closer to hardly knowing you're in a simulator.  Now if we can just avoid civilizational collapse we may actually get to use it!  For now, we have a practical solution to worldwide scenery w/o a big price tag nor storage requirement, and at a performance level commensurate w/ a wide variety of platforms.  If n when MSFS evolves to the more fully featured, aeronautically high fi simulator we will see migration come big time I'm sure.  But as discussed, it's a ways out still.   Unless P3D/XP jumps in bed with unigine sim then all bets are off!

I think what RXP is trying to say is you are not going to be disappointed if you expect XP12 clouds and weather, both in looks and simulation, to make those videos look suitably dated.

Yippie, the long awaited additional video from Noel 😀. Anyhow, it still about clouds - although not from X-Plane, but from MSFS 2020. But I can live with that. And now ... for something completely different. Ok, not completely, but slightly. As we are talking about clouds - one thing is how they look, the other, how they are simulated.

It's not a good idea to fly right through the middle of a thunderstorm cloud - neither in reality, nor in X-Plane. In FSX, forces acted (more or less) only on the center of gravity, but MSFS 2020 has improved with a kind of airflow around the wings. So ...in FSX, when you entered a thunderstorm even with the default trike, it rocked only a little bit like a boat on a small water waves. But it wasn't dangerous at all. As I don't have MSFS 2020 (and never will - I'm on Linux), I'd be interested, what happens there in thunderstorms?

Honestly, don't bother...

Wait for XP12 !

Great, I welcome this as I have no allegiance to any platform.  Just currently enjoying what we already have in MSFS, and definitely see nothing in XP11 that would tease me out of this for the time being.  I'm patient to watch it unfold further. And I think what I have said over and over is that MSFS is in a state of constant change right now, including clouds and weather.  It's a very big team working on all of this at MS/Asobo and things can change very fast and have, and you're already lost when you compare MSFS now against anything because it's simply changing all the time.  I think everyone in this subforum and in other sim subforums do themselves a big favor by watching all flight sims as they evolve as it's pretty silly to stay committed to any one of them come hell or high water.  We simply don't know what the future will bring.  MSFS could shut down, as well LR could shut down after key members are killed in a car crash-sheet happens.  Best to be open, IOW, I know I am, which is why I stopped by here. Working Title was hired by Asobo to work on flight modeling and ATC, and another resource was recently hired to address issues w/ airport markings accuracy and things along those lines.  They have a lot of capital to work with. You will also see graphics improve over time not only thru World Updates, but as satellite data improves.  I think this was considered in their 10-yr plan for this architecture. My sense is Asobo will get weather and clouds more right as it were, and they already have a giant jump on world scenery.  My biggest concern about XP 12 is lack of a satellite data basis--it plays a very big role in immersion for me.  But I'm open, so we'll see.

Honest, XP11 clouds get a bad wrap, they really aren't as bad as people make out, like, Been flying out of MROC since I added the scenery, what, really is there to complain about (besides the dated lighting)?

Clouds look fine to me, like actual clouds, certainly more so than any MSFS screenshot or video I've ever seen.

Every button works just like the real thing

FPS good for a flawless VR experience

What, exactly, would tease you away from your $120 purchase of 50 or so half decent airports, nice lighting and not much else? I'd have demanded a refund day one if I didn't already know I'd be wanting a refund. Is it some "it was 4 times the price so must be 4 times as good" type thinking?

I could maybe have understood if you went spinning round MROC in a tail dragger, but then you picked a very borken tubeliner.

I just checked, and to my shock and surprise, it turns out this is the X-Plane forum and not the MSFS forum.  Who knew?

This discussion is about XP12 clouds...let's take it back there, please.

Again, this thread is about XP12 clouds, not anyone's opinions about the general state of forums or who fired the first shot.  Two more pages of off-topic chaff have been removed.

OK back on topic. I'd say the clouds look fantastic. Roll on XP12 which can't come soon enough for me.

So it's not prefabricated, unnecessary bling and marketing hype, anymore?

Goran, I think it’s perfectly fine for someone to change their opinion.

Indeed it is.  However, in some cases, it depends on the agenda.

But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Sure ... jarmstro changed his opinion ... All of a sudden ... By 180° ...

But ok, now with his post that he likes the clouds very much, I must admit I completely changed my opinion about him. I like him very much.
