Seasons:-

Big big big big project. They’ve said this before.
Want to do it right.
Lots of work.
going to take longer.

Which is why I agree with their approach of NOT opening up the system for 3rd Party developers. They are commited to it for the next YEARS and until they reach the point where they say: "It's done, improving it further is beyond our capabilities", I really believe they should stick to their guns and not move away from that position.

What about Dx12?

Seb said that on his system DX12 improved CPU efficiency by about 10%, but GPU efficiency got about 10% worse. It  depends on the exact system specs. They see potential for performance improvements in GPU performance in the coming months of up to 15% over DX11.

My simming system: AMD Ryzen 5800X3D, 32GB RAM, RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB, LG 38" 3840x1600

Seb mentioned he saw some CPU improvements - maybe 5%, at the same time some more overhead for the GPU - but it varies.

No specific optimisations have been done yet though - early days

Agree with that approach.. If it’s beyond there capabilities I think they recognise when they need help an example being bringing Working Title onboard and Gaya on the WUs. I just hope and I’m sure they will continue that. For instance I think what Bijan has done with seasons looks brilliant, getting him onboard on this wouldn’t be a bad idea to me similar to WT and Gaya.

Dude, this SU8 better be loaded with a ton of bug fixes. 🙂

Although I'm a big fan of Bijan's work I think this is one area where Asobo might be able to do a better job long term, given their level of access to the engine / data, and their obvious artistic skills.

Correct. He does art changes. The guy can never code up a proper seasons functionality, animated falling leaves, more types of vegetation, shorter brown grass in winter or snow accumulation etc.

A tad unfair to say the guy can never code, who are you or I to make that assumption, we don’t actually know what he would be capable of given full reigns and unlimited resources, he is improving his products all the time, how do we know he’s not limited by the SDK etc. He has arguably created the best visual enhancement addon for MSFS under the limitations that the SDK provides.
Also, shorter grass is something you listed which actually he has achieved himself. An look if it’s purely a matter of ‘hey we haven’t got round to it’ then fine my point was based around capabilities hence getting WT involved. You could argue they have the artistry skills but still got Gaya onboard, my feeling is to speed up world updates, the same could apply here on some level, but we aren’t privy to that information of course.

  1. slands - Adding watermask, rock islands and enhancing the areas with custom vegetations.
  2. Replacing sunken boats with 3d boats in marinas and islands. (non animated)
  3. Adding huts in vacation spots.
  4. Removing photogrammetry trees or trees from ships, bridges, parks runways, or any other areas they shouldn’t be.
(Removing all photogrammetry trees from cities is not possible)
  5. Enhancing vegetations around airports
  6. Adding missing bridges (generic models)
  7. Adding missing forest and trees.
  8. Adding whales, birds or other animals in a place of your choice.
  9. Shortening grassfields.

Agree he’s done great work with what he’s been given, but he’s unlikely to be given low level access to the weather system to make his artwork locally accurate.

Sure, WT didn’t have it either when they started, but I’m guessing Asobo have more artists than they do avionics engineers already inhouse.

I get what your saying and I agree however, even in the case of artists they decided to partner up with Gaya, either because they felt they could do it better or produce POIs for WUs faster or a combination of both. I guess it depends where MSFS priority lies at the time, seasons I think has always been on their radar but never quite an urgent enough issue for them. Let’s hope we see some movement 2022 on that.

That was the most sensational! Of course Anna quickly corrected him...
