Jörg Neumann regarding Game of the Year, Reno and 2022

I've used the default ATC a couple of times lately and it hasn't done a bad job. The only issue is that I have to calculate my TOD manually and request the altitudes for each waypoint on the STAR as I go. Other than than, I have not been deviated or given crazy vectors. The biggest problem is still that with lots of AI, ATC won't stop talking long enough for me to get a word in edgewise. It feels like I sit there for 20 minutes waiting so I can respond and move on to the next controller.

I guess we can kiss off a functional AI/ATC feature until some time in 2023 at the earliest.

I don't think the announcement of 6 SUs in 2022 excludes possible improvements to AI or ATC. Those are core updates, so there is every chance we could see ATC/AI enhancements in those.

I think they want to get the G1000 NXi and the G3000 done first.

There you go, even the vaunted WT has a different set of priorities than, for example, I would 😉.  Right now we'd all be tickled if they just fixed the yo-yo descent calls. Plus it seems descent is often started too far out from destination, but not being a RW pilot that is just a hunch.  I do appreciate the lack of herring-bone vectors in MSFS ATC over FSX/P3D ATC good lord that was awful!  It will be nice to have options for short finals and a few other enhancements.

Working Title has publicly said that they will be working on ATC enhancements along with Premium Planes but it sounded like that work would not start until next year.  I think they want to get the G1000 NXi and the G3000 done first.

And the G3X I might hope!

I’m no expert on anything going on behind the scenes but what WT is doing in addition to the avionics is rewriting the entire flight plan system of the sim which is how they’re going to get all of the avionics suites to work so well.  This would also be an integral part of making the ATC better and more realistic so it makes perfect sense that their priority is the flight plan system and avionics first.  We all want it fixed but it’s most important I think to do it the right way.

I think there are some elements that are somewhat isolated from avionics and flight planning that could be fixed now, because they're so glaring, like the one I mentioned above.  Then go back and re do flight planning and avionics, and lastly top it off with major enhancements in ATC.  Love to get rid of the ATC associated stutter too!

The core updates mean more to me (and I suspect most simmers) than any content update Asobo could ever deliver.  After a year and change, they don't seem to be particularly adept at either.  Hasn't Jorg been listening?

Of course he has, but, he’s like a politician.
