Are these real life pics or MSFS

This question alone tells me we (rather MS and Asobo) are on the right track... BTW, my understanding is that those pics are taken IRL but I may be wrong 😉

[start of joke] C'mon sd_flyer, everyone sees these pictures are taken from P3D, and MFS... Don't trick us 🧐 [end of joke]

I would like to ask you for some good references regarding aircraft you really like to use in MFS. I believe the default C172 is a good example, probably the default Caravan too, maybe even the B350.

All of the aircraft or almost all are strange to land because of what is probably an overdone ground effect, but there are a few that seem to "fight" this sim engine quirk, one that will probably get addressed in future patches.

There is at least one welcomed feature that came I believe with SU7, and that's the new roll rate and inertia that allows for much more realistic aileron rolls in aircraft like the Extra or the Pitts than it was ever possible in previous versions and branches of fs9 !

Also the spin effects that, while bakked, are still welcome in MFS. We don't have to go specific creators like A2A or Real Air to get a spin in some aircraft.

So, please sd_flyer, point me to, say, 3 prop aircraft of your choice in MFS.

"2022 is going to be just as busy. Six World Updates, Six Sim Updates, Maverick, XCloud, gliders, helicopters and stuff we can’t talk about yet. It’s going to be crazy full!"

Unless it is included in "....stuff we can't talk about yet.", (and I can't see for the life of me why it would be), I guess we can kiss off a functional AI/ATC feature until some time in 2023 at the earliest. But, probably later because there is clearly no priority here which for those of us who enjoy this element of aviation immersion, is a bitter pill to swallow. ATC in this sim is just rubbish and in the bin for most of us, live AI has come out of the oven overhyped, undercooked and underwhelming. It's not fit for simmer consumption. AI with the pointy nose models is frankly an insult to consumers who are trying to take this franchise seriously. I was prepared to accept these 'draft teasers' as placeholders while they got a few urgencies out of the way. But instead it's Xbox and Reno Air Races today and X Cloud and Maverick tomorrow.

Ok, that's fine. Then this is only half a sim. A good half, but still, only half a sim. You can fly a nice model over some really picturesque scenery anywhere in the world, but you're the only one in the sky.* So I guess Jorg would put a positive spin on that and with a wry smile would opine " Well, so now you see why ATC is not so important at the moment ! 😏".

Jorg, if you are listening or your team are then this is what AI can do for us 'weirdo's' who like immersive avaition......

Tonight I'm captaining a B777 NZAA to YSSY. The WX is 2000' OVC with light rain and a 10 kt cross wind with fading light.  We are taxing to the holding point with a regional B737 in front. The regional is cleared to line up and hold. In the background I can still hear a slight rumble from the last departure. The regional is cleared for take-off but cautioned wake turbulence from the departing B747. Strobes are on and the whine of engine spool up is clearly audible as the B737 kicks up spray from the wheels and engine thrust. After what seems like for ever, the regional pitches up and launches into the OVC. Out of site all that is heard is a cordial thank you and good evening Sir, from the B737 FO as tower hands him over to departure. Meanwhile, as the rain dribbles down the cockpit glass, we have completed before take-off checks with line up checks to come. Through the greyness the flickering of strobes can be seen as the next arrival descends through the gloom. We know they're on the clocks and working hard in the cross wind and gusts. Sitting comfortably in our stationary B777 we know what the guys up there are going through. It's been a long day for these guys but with an ILS in low overcast  and crosswinds, you cant afford to bring your B game. It's the time when you think you should have listened to your mother and become a bank clerk instead of an airline pilot. Then with landing lights blazing , a three holer bursts out from under the cover. Still 100 feet up, the FedEx MD-11 from PHNL (Honolulu) is massive as it passes us with full flap extended. The pilot flying applies a bit of thrust going past us then audibly reduces all thrust and begins to flare. The touch down is firm but they stick. Through the mist from the tires we can see the spoilers deploy as they dump their lift. An audible roar is heard as the FedEx guys up front of the MD-11 bring the inertia from this massive aircraft under control with heavy braking and deployment of reverse thrusters. Tower gives them clearance to take next suitable high speed taxiway..... It's such an impressive sight we almost forget we are sitting at the sharp end of a B777 waiting to depart but tower jolts us back with a clearance to line up and take-off and a request to expedite departure. It's a busy time at the moment and another crew are up there in that mirk looking to land. Best we not hold them up and force them to go around. We complete the lineups during the turn onto runway heading and do a final check to ensure the MD-11 has cleared the taxiway. I apply company power and my FO calls tower "callsign is rolling".  The guys behind us cant see us but we know they'll appreciate that call. I'm pumped,  and I haven't even got in the air yet!!!

* AIG do a good job of filling the gap but they are left with mostly less than optimal outcomes due to the SDK. So a stop gap yes, better than pointy nose models, much better, but the whole package? Definitely not and I'm sure Kaii would agree. He would want to do so much more if the SDK allowed.

Multiplayer does not count for obvious reasons like being buzzed on finals by numerous F-18's and Spitfires.🤦‍♂️

No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.

Silly question:

Who has rewarded Microsoft Flight Simulator "Game of the year" (what year?). I googled - there are some rewards given for several games in 2020 and 2021 but nowhere a nomination for MSFS to be found?

Is  this "GOTY"-thing  just a self-felt-award or a marketing invention or did I miss something?

I don't think GOTY meant that.  It probably was a one year anniversary celebration of MSFS.

In any case, MSFS received the third highest review on Metacritic among all 2020 PC games: https://www.metacritic.com/feature/best-videogames-released-in-2020

That's pretty impressive.  If you consider all the PC games that were reviewed by Metacritic last year, and MSFS got the third highest Metacritic score among all those PC games in all of 2020, that is a huge accomplishment, IMO.

The sad part to me is it's really not all that far off in many ways, in fact there are some nice enhancements over ancient FSX/P3D ATC.  My sense is they could fix and improve it fairly easily but just haven't put the resources on it quite yet.  I also hope it's before 2023.  Probably the best tact would be to keep posting it as something to vote on a the MSFS forum, or go vote on topics already there.

I don't want to derail the topic, but reading you brought me more immersion, more "being there" moment than using the game! I might be delusional, but I can guarantee you I was seeing this MD11 passing by me with all its mass, power, and spray just reading your words. Thank you for this moment!!

The giveaway is still the lack of variety in clouds which look very good but are limited to a few types. The same to a lesser extent with vegetation.

I'm not sure if three bi-monthly updates, or one six monthly update, would necessarily have a different number of bugs.

Bigger updates will ALWAYS have more bugs and more serious ones than smaller ones.  Some things cannot be found until you ship no matter how many unusual test cases you think up to pre-test the new code.  In a sense these rolling small updates are a variety of agile development.

Now the total number of bugs in a 6 month update will likely be less than the sum of all the bugs spread across 6 separate monthly updates - but the idea that a "well tested" 6 month update will have less bugs than a monthly one is somewhat ludicrous, it does not work that way.

Working Title has publicly said that they will be working on ATC enhancements along with Premium Planes but it sounded like that work would not start until next year.  I think they want to get the G1000 NXi and the G3000 done first.
