Todays New Release - F16 Collection on Just Flight

I know this does not relate directly to the DCS Hornet, but it does relate to the ability for sims (in his case DCS) to provide a relatively accurate simulation of the flight dynamics of real-world aircraft.  If it's good enough for a team like the Snowbirds to use for actual practice, I think it's more than good enough for my use at home 😉

Let me put this way. Each sim gives some kind of realistic aspect. But there is no really sim that gives 1 to 1 stick and rudder feel. Also of course within sim quality of simulation varies from aircraft to aircraft, developer to developer... So people who warship one sim or another should remembers all sims are great but neither of them represent most realism ever even when they marketed so. As you probably know I'm very active real world CFI. I use MSFS for my practical needs at the moment. But there is no question I could have also utilized DCS, X-plane or P3D. However, I have only limited space on my SSD for one sim at the moment. In no way MSFS is superior to other sim, but it does give me what I need right now and visual is not the least thing.

P.S. Here is airsafety institute uses some great and familiar visuals for accident case study. As we can see good visual are very useful for real world!

The F16 is pure fun for me at least.

Here is a video of an IR track session (GrassMonkey Puck system) using 4 monitors the lower monitor is a touchscreen with AirManger instruments and Knobster to control inputs. It is cut down from 50 minutes long.

I just downloaded the 1m mesh for Switzerland. It looks pretty awesome in wide vision.

My system is pretty old but (I5 and 1070 32G ram) but it easily maintain 30 fps even over this intense landscape at mach speeds. It is a dedicated system and I spent a lot of time optimizing, but no overclocking. Description in my signature.

I really don’t care if the avionics are not perfectly modeled. This is just for fun. And it works perfectly for this kind of fun flying. Your eyes are outside 99% of the time flying like this and the canopy on the F16 is made for this kind of fun.

The last landing is on a narrow 5400’ very bumpy runway in Interlaken LSMI. Not my best landing but nothin broke. You may notice that there is a “ski jump” half way down the runway that bounces you up quite a bit.

@177B  Nice!  who would have thought you could use this just for having some fun!

My Puck has arrived today.  It took about 2 weeks from the USA to England.  I will set it up tomorrow night.  Any inside tips on setting it up, or anything to watch out for?

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

My Puck worked perfectly after the install of the OpenTrack even using the default calibrations. Just follow the instructions exactly.

After a few days Windows had an update, and all of a sudden tracking was bad and jumpy. You could see that the FPS was jumping around in the settings fro 0 to 30.

I did a complete uninstall and removed the OpenTrack folder in documents, this is important.

Then rebooted the computer and did a fresh install. Now everything was back to normal.

Depending on the aircraft I fly I have different profiles, it can take a bit of experimenting to set up the curves the way you like them best.

Good luck let us know how it goes.

The below update will soon be uploaded for distribution by Just Flight, hopefully in time for the weekend. Owners will get an e-mail when it's ready;

SC Designs F-16 Fighting Falcons Changelog v0.3.0

( GENERAL BUG FIXES AND CHANGES PRIOR TO MAJOR 2022 UPDATES )

Cockpit panel lights colour corrected from white to green
Glareshield texture resolution fixed
Glareshield shape improved
HUD mounting and UFCP repositioned for greater accuracy
Control column texture mapping fixed
Jet category in aircraft.cfg corrected
F16 Multiplayer UI text corrected
AoA indicator lights position / colour corrected
F-16I external tanks visibility corrected
External sensor pylon rail visibility corrected
ADI texture resolution improved
ADI texture colour corrected ( tan & blue )
Waterline added to ADI
Cockpit interior glass made more reflective

The big update in 2022 will feature a largely re-built cockpit for accuracy, and also external improvements such as the JFS doors, higher resolution texturing, full panel / rivet decals, and other enhancements. A similar update for the F-15s and F-14s will precede the F-16's update, as they were released earlier.

I appreciate you continuing to improve this (and all of your) aircraft and also your communication in this forum!  I have an issue that comes up from time to time in the Viper where the gear lever is showing in the up position at the start of a flight (while still on the ground).  In this case, the gear lever never visually moves from that position, though gear extension and retraction still works normally using the mapped switch on my HOTAS.  Has this issue been reported by anyone else?  Also, is there a way to set up our own personal default for the fuel loadout.  I get tired of having to move a whole bunch of sliders before every flight to get the fuel and pods setup the way I prefer.

I haven't seen the gear lever issue myself, but will keep an eye open for it.

The fuel tanks issue is due to Asobo changing the entire fuel system in MSFS. This would be okay, but it broke our ability to control which tanks appear in any given .flt file, be it runway, apron etc. So, at the moment, they all default to 50%, which is annoying for everybody.

One I learn the new system, which is much more complex, I will be able to edit the .flt files to ensure flights start without any external tanks, leaving it to the user to decide which ones to load on. I'll probably issue another update for that when it's done, as it'll make most users far happier.

Hi. Finally bought it l and it's actually better than I expected. It would be great if we could have a bit better external textures. Also would it possible to toggle the pilot's 3d model in the cockpit view? Would love to make those go pro videos 😉

For future wishlist, it would be great to have wings bending under intensive gforce(a feature I sorely miss from DCS f16) and better G-vapor effects.

Have you ever flown in a real fighter?  I have from my old squadron VAQ-34 in Lemoore CA.  The Asobo F/A-18 gives the correct feel for the most part of the real bird even though we had lot A/B's.  The sounds and the feel of the cockpit really capture the F/A-18 in the Asobo model especially with a VR headset.  Don't get me wrong it needs a few improvements (flap effects on the aircraft, spoilers, forward night lighting, drag, etc).  This F16 looks promising with a few updates.  That being said no one can comment on the F14's flight model like you did here unless you have facts to back it up and DCA ain't it.  Whoever did that model most likely hasn't flown in the real bird as well so that's nothing to go off of.  I personally don't like the Just Flight F14 as the feel seems off in the cockpit (the version for DCS is far better from the cockpit's perspective) and that's from sitting in the real bird both front seat and back.  Never flew in one but been around plenty but this F16 has some promise.

Besides a civilian trainer, no. I think the Asobo F/A-18 has a lot of potential, and people are already trying to improve upon it on Flightsim.to. as for the F-14 in dcs, former Pilots and RIOs have commented and reviewed on the flight model. They says it's very accurate besides the over exaggerated shaking and few other things that need to be worked on. In the end though, nothing will ever truly replicate the real thing regardless of how accurate the flight model is. 👍

I also really want the pilot in the seat, especially for VR flying, the trouble is where to put the head! 🙂 I don't have a good solution to this yet but when I do, I'd like to add it.

Effects are a work in progress as the effects system is very new. Likewise for bendy wings, the use of bones ( needed for that ) is not very stable yet in MSFS so it's something that will probably get added in the future.

Can you please remove that tailhook handle in the cockpit?  F16's don't land on carriers... 🥺

Thanks for the heads up on the update.

Has the F15 been updated to incorporate SU7's HUD technology?  Looking to purchase if that's the case.

I suppose it is an emergency arrestor hook (not sure of the exact terminology)

Basicaly not suited to land on a carrier but to catch a cable in case of emergency on runawys equiped with that kind of system.

At least some F-16s have tail hooks and arrestor wires aren't just used on carriers.

I take it back. Where is the lever in the real cockpit?  I can't find any pictures of it.
