Kodiak Review Thread

Is the need for frequent rudder trim adjustments an accurate representation of the real flight model?  I find myself adjusting it quite often.  I have no experience at all with a Kodiak prior to this one, so I'm very much learning the ropes, so to speak.

I don't know a whole lot about this real world aircraft but it certainly seems plausible to me given the power and torque this engine is putting out on a relatively small aircraft.  Different aircraft but I remember when flying the Majestic Dash 8 you had to adjust the rudder trim pretty much every time you changed the thrust levels if you wanted it to stay in coordinated flight.  It also required significant rudder inputs on takeoff (or setting the rudder trim) to keep it flying in a straight line.

I have not been able to get the Prop lever into the feather setting using my Honeycomb TQ.  I have propeller on Prop axis but cannot get it into feather detent.  Has anyone figured that out?  Using the Toggle Prop Feather button in control options is not working either.

I flew the Majestic Q400 for hundreds and hundreds of hours, and never had to fiddle with the rudder trim.

You can get away with it, but take offs will be harder than they need to be, and your wings won’t be level at most power settings.

It is standard operations to use rudder trim after power changes. (Not during approach / landing). Yaw damper alone wont help.

Like I said, I never found it necessary in the Q400.

So after solving my control issues I absolutely love Kodiak !  For the most part I see behavior in pat with used to be beloved Kodiak from Thranda in XP11. Take off roll left turning tendency very well modeled

Just finished my morning flight and back on PC LOL

If I have the WT NXI installed, will the Kodiak automaticaly have the NXi enabled? Because they say it comes with default G1000.

It does...as long as you have the WT NXi installed in the sim it will be in the aircraft.

This is one scary approach.

Yeah transition from AP to Manual on an ILS/RNAV approach can also be very hairy.

There does seem to be something going on that I don't understand happening at take off. Some take offs are just fine, plane glides along the runway to Vr at which point to rotate, anticipating a pull to the left and if you get that right she takes off cleanly.
But others the nose starts to lift violently around 35kts despite neutral pitch trim (and irrespective of rudder trim) and no amount of pitch down will keep her from running away and turning over.

Trim setting will depend on CG. The limits for CG are 14-40% MAC and Takeoff trim is 0-75% down. If you are tail heavy, you need more forward trim to counteract the pitching moment caused by the weight.

The symptoms I'm reading correspond to a mis-trimmed aircraft with a heavy load in the back. MSFS' weight & balance window doesn't help much either.

If you can't see the CG, expand the window to the right.

Overall a great plane from my short experience with it so far. Although I have had 3 CTD's with it so far which is a bit worrying as I very rarely get CTD's with this sim. All have happened while I have been fiddling around with the NXI screens....specifically the middle screen when scrolling through the different pages.

A couple of people posted about the CTDs, that is something I am not going to get involved with until it is fixed.

Fair enough....a wise move I think. It is a good plane though apart from that....if I don't fiddle too much with the center MFD though there is no issue. Hopefully they fix it ASAP.
