16GB vs 32Gb

Featured Replies

I get a little bit of shuttering / lagging but don’t want to turn down my settings.

I’ve watched some YouTube videos but the technical stuff going above my head.

Ive seen my 16GB memory near full at times when using MSFS

will getting another 16GB help? Currently have 2x8GB DDR4 3200mhz

what's your CPU, GPU, mainboard, monitor resolution?

An additional 32GB will help for sure.  I have an older 4 core Intel CPU, with a 3070 and going from 16GB to 32GB help quite a bit.  I still stutter a bit at larger airports but things are much smoother than when I had 16GB.

I mean an additional 16GB for a total of 32GB

16 GB memory wouldn't help, I'd say

I like  to dedicate 16gb to the OS.

I have a 5900X, 32GB 3600MHz, and a 3070 Ti and I still get random dips at ultra 200 LOD 1440p. Much like FSX when I was a teenager in the mid 2000s, this seems to be one of those games that you'll always be chasing every bit of performance, but never really be satisfied :D. Back then in 2007 I remember getting 4GB DDR2-800MHz for my birthday to upgrade my 2GB DDR2-667. I remember that actually making a difference, so maybe an extra 16 would, but idk. If you have the slots and the extra cash, I'd say what the heck. I upgraded to 32GB from 16GB "way back" in 2019 and have not ever looked back. I do have a PC with 16GB ram and the game runs horrible on it as my HTPC, but it has a 6600K and a 1070, so pretty sure thats the issue. The 3600 was an still is a great CPU, so it should be good IMO for a while to come.

If you have seen your 16gb getting to capacity in the sim then absolutely the upgrade will make a difference. What kind of storage are you running on your pc? SSD, hard drives or a combination?

Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB, Win 11. MSFS2020. Moza, MFG, Fulcrum & Virpil controllers. Quest 3 for VR.

I also had 16GB, went to 32GB and I saw a huge difference, very seldom I get CTD

It will help reduce stuttering, it has been proved.

Personally, I didn't notice much if any difference after adding an extra 16 gb RAM.  Windows manages memory pretty well these days though and whilst extra RAM is always nice and not too expensive, I would expect nothing more than perhaps a slightly smoother MSFS

Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)

I have 16GB, and good FPS, no stutters, and zero CTDs

I upgraded from 16Gb to 32Gb last year. It really didn't make a noticeable difference on FPS when running just the base sim and necessary add-ons.

It did seem to help eliminate some "pauses" (not stutters - like half second pause every so often with no pattern) for me in P3D. I believe that was the result of less memory paging in and out of the swap file when I had lots of add-ons running (as I always did in P3D). A contributing factor is that I am notoriously bad about running other programs and watching videos to kill time during cruise in long hauls. I don't think I'd get the pauses if I just kept "in" then sim instead of loading other stuff into memory.
