happy ?

Extremely happy!  I still need to do a bit of tweaking tonight, but first impressions are very good.
I am hoping that the combination of my Samsung 980 Pro paired with the 12900k to sort out the data will reduce my loading times, which is one of my pet hates at the moment.
Even as an Englishman, I can only drink so much tea as I wait!
I need to transfer my MSFS install onto the new drive first.  Windows is on it, and it boots about twice as fast.

Even though I keep my community folder quite lean (with the excellent addon linker), I fear the situation may become worse with the world updates and all of that extra content in the official folder.

As for the 12900k and the new 980pro, I will do some proper timings tonight (MSFS loading times) so that people can see if there is any benefit if they are considering upgrading.
I will do a write-up, along with how I am finding the puck headset, which I haven't tried yet.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

It's incredible. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of grass jungle strips natively in MSFS.  Most of the ones MBP flies to are just in the sim. Flightsim.to has some handcrafted strips as well.  If you load up little navmap, you'll be astounded at the number of strips in the sim.  Short, sloping, one way strips on the side of mountains... it's bush flying paradise.

Check out Ononge (ONB) if you want to see something fun... it's a dirt scar on the spine of a ridge, with a turn halfway up.  😉

Thanks for the tip on the Flightsim.to map, I think I have what I need now to get started.

Bijan's trees are indeed the cause of it, just checked it.

Only mod Ive regretted buying, there was already a problem with overpopulation of autogen trees in MSFS Bijan makes it worse.

I really wish there was a way to selectively delete trees without going through the SDK, there are a quite a few farmstrips I use that are affected

Thanks for this. Is there a list somewhere of other airports in the area.  After watching the YouTube videos of the Kodiak in Papua New Guinea, I would really like to do some flying there but have no idea which airports or grass strips to use.  I am not even sure if any of the grass strips in the videos appear in MSFS.

Pick any airport in Papua New Guinea that is in the MSFS database and go there.  Use the free GTN750 or the G1000nxi and call up the nearest airports.  Take a snapshot and use that for fly to each and every one of them.  Some are quite interesting and all are worth at least one landing and takeoff.

Take for instance AYDY as a starting point.  There are 30+ strips within a small circle.  I sketched them on a notepad with the general location and identifier.  Some have no flight data that I have found, but, they all exist in the sim and have names associated with the ID.

I started using the Default Porter with the Got Gravel mod and once you master the upgraded Beta you can land on a dime and leave change in most cases.  Getting out is no problem with the new Overboost feature either.

Fun stuff, highly recommended.

So for LNM, I would also like to hear some tipps.

On the rigth side there is a submenu item labelled load scenery o similar (sorry but I am just going from memory) : it will scan both community and official folders to update lnm with whatever it finds.

A couple of my favourites. NOTE - some of these are very old videos from the early days of MSFS.

Have a look at this thread in The "Around the World race Forum". It has download links for Papua Aiprorts. I downloaded them, but not flown yet. I have them ready to go with Addon Linker should I get the itch though.

Here it is:

 Re : trees (see upthread)

There  is an interesting comment from a freeware dev, on the .to product page, as an answer to my remark.

That seems to be an common issue when one use "scrub_instead_of_trees" biome in scenery editor. Bijan is not using/integrating this biome (or with a mistakenly called biome "scrubs_instead_of_trees". I have the same issues in some of my airfields... 😕

It is not the first time that I see tall trees just before a threshold and thought it was just a flaw in the general scenery. We have seen this so much in P3D... Actually it seems that they rather come with @BijanStudio's product. Once off the Community folder the trees were gone. Bijan may have a comment on that ? Can it be fixed once and for all ?

At flightsim.to , hover the mouse over the word Scenery up on top. Left click mouse and drag the mouse cursor downward all the way to the bottom where the icon leading to the MAP is located. Then in the map, click on Airports and Small Airfields.

It's almost like they are hiding the map.
