FT CYYZ INBOUND

Featured Replies

Glad the Reg version came out late enough last night that I didn’t buy it, now I can wait for the FT release and make a decision once some comparisons are out.

I am a bit suspicious of whether the FT version was shoved over the finish line or not given the timing.  We will see.

Same here, saw the CYYZ was released yesterday, but with my busy schedule I wouldn’t have been able to pick it up till at least next weekend, so gives me the opportunity to take a good look at both before deciding…Kinda sucks for some though for sure, but I guess it’s the nature of the beast!

They certainly play their cards closer to their chest than many developers, and this time it bit them in the rear, with quite a few people that likely purchased the other airport and won't buy a second in two days. Can't blame them.

I think 'confidentiality' is a really weird approach to take for an established developer with a loyal base of customers.

If they know for sure your product is coming and a relatively firm idea of when they're not going to buy any competing stuff that arrives in the meantime.

And 'it's in development' is too general.

If a decent Boston Logan turned up out of nowhere now, and there are more and more lesser known or new developers arriving who may well do it, that's going to eat a large amount of sales that could otherwise have been kept with just a few sentences of information.

For anyone who actually plans on buying this even after getting the other one, I’d like to see a performance comparison when it comes out.

Does anyone know how FT is going to price this?

EDIT: If their other MSFS pricing is any indication,  $18 - $20 USD.

Definitely. We're not dealing with a company merger here that has to deal with antitrust regulations and stock market fluctuations. We're dealing with the release of a DLC of a game. I understand not posting new screenshots every day and release dates months before, but playing 4D chess with your customers doesn't really help anyone.

RegDesigns CYYZ seems quite detailed, and overall very nice, but some areas are hard on fps.

This is really the only factor that would make me consider purchasing FlyTampa's version. I have only spent a little time at Reg Designs YYZ but I am satisficed with the overall product, except that it is either not well optimized or Toronto continues to be a place within the sim that is just hard on FPS. I suspect, however, that it is optimization.

Hopefully someone will do a performance comparison between the two airports.

For me, the main factor will be accuracy. I hope we'll get a good look at both airports so that I can see which one has the most updated layout. Framerate and overall quality follow as parameters. we'll see.

I can't help but see the irony of a company named "Fly Tampa" seems to be steadfastly determined to either never release KTPA for MSFS, or make sure they re-release every airport they've ever done, before KTPA. 🙄

One of the top-notch devs for sure, and I have just about all their products, but being a semi-resident of the Tampa area, I long for this airport I've frequented in real life many times to appear in MSFS...by....let's say it together....FLY TAMPA

Yes, accuracy is the first priority. I know the airport well, and the Reg Designs version is not so inaccurate that I would purchase another version for the differences I have perceived so far. (I have not explored the whole airport in detail yet, but from an initial impression and a couple of short flights. I also personally have no interest in the terminal interiors.) I have actually been surprised at that a relatively new team has put together in the time that they have had, which, I think, bodes well for development in MSFS. There are some areas where the textures do not seem quite right, or quite authentic, but, again, for me, those are minor considerations. The biggest issue I have is the frame rates are quite low, especially around the terminals. There is a choppiness I have not experienced at any other airport in MSFS. And I suspect their newness here is showing through. Performance will certainly make me consider FlyTampa's version if they have a better optimized offering. It is my home airport and it will be the one airport I use far more then any other so I do not mind paying for another version.

To be fair, Tampa is a pretty popular airport, but it would likely draw less money comparatively to more famous airports like Toronto, Boston, Athens, or Amsterdam. Can't blame them for making stuff that would be more popular first, and then moving on to more niche add-ons. The more they sit on big airports they have a considerable base for (because they made them for previous sims), the more there's a chance that someone new will eat their lunch as it's happening here.

Agreed.  Totally understand a release schedule for the most popular 1st...but I'd also think they'd capitalize on their namesake as their "flagship" product, the product that put them on the map, and have a marketing campaign something like "You saw how awesome our flagship product was in FSX/P3D, wait till you see what we've done to her in MSFS!"

Either way, I'm ok if KTPA comes out last, as long as they are planning on making it.  That is the important thing. 😉

Some don't miss the main observation here. Reg released their CYYZ the day before SU8 and FT releases CYYZ the day after SU8.

My money is on the FT version.

Not really irony that a company tries to sell the biggest and most popular airports instead of the airport of a city that I wouldn't even know without the Buccaneers or Rays...

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
