The spikes are back!

Featured Replies

Hi!

I've emptied the community folder completly and I've have no rolling cash and no Google Maps addon, but I recently got those dreadful spikes in some places. I'll guess I've seen them occasionally in USA and Europe for a couple of weeks now so I don't think it's a SU8 thing. Like many users, I've had those spikes early on, but I thought it was a thing of the past. Is there anything on my side or is it a "Microsoft server" thing?

Come here you big, beautiful cup of coffee and lie to me about how much we’re going to get done today.

I don't think they ever left.  Probably an ongoing data cleanup thing.

It is the photogrammetry thing. Turn it off and the spikes will go away. You can find these spikes on Google earth as well.

Are you zoomed in on that pic?  Looks like the photogrammetry vs the landscape spikes as mentioned above.  They don't show high resolution until you are closer and look like spikes/blobs...although it has improved since the earlier versions.

This is reaching. You're zooming in way beyond the typical acceptable draw distance

Yes, when I enlarge the photo, it does look more like tall buildings in the distance at low detail.  Without knowing the magnification level in the photo, it doesn't mean a lot.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Spike appears some 30 miles south west of Basel in Switzerland. Pretty sure that wasn't there before SU8

I flew it and then flew towards the spikes and they were buildings.

Yes, the picture I added where from a place in the USA (don't recall exactly where) is zoomed in. But I've seen multiple other example at much closer distance. I'm often flying from runway 36  EFHF, Malmi in Helsinki, and when I'm paning to right I get "Photogrammetry artefacs" amongs the trees that wasn't present there before. I'm curiuos if someone else is getting those artefacts at EFHF, runway 36 and facing to the right.

Spikes never entirely disappeared on my machine. PNG has quite a few for example.

Will check EFHF.

I checked out EFHF and didn't see anything unusual except lots of snow. 🙂

No spikes at EFHF for me. Tried various settings: Terrain level of detail, terrain vector data and photogrammetry on and off, still no spikes.

looks like Sky Harbor airport.  Camelback mountain to the right.  Papago in the middle...  and the Salt River through the center...
