If this thing is trouncing the 12900K in the sim (which in turn trounces the 5900x in the sim) This is the chip to be on for an AMD platform for MSFS2020 What an awesome job by Dr. Su's team. a Truly last hurrah. They always test CPU on 1080p so they want to take away the GPU bottleneck in the chain. If it performs this good at 1080p, it will be phenomenal at 2k/4k if you have the GPU that can handle it. April 14, 20224 yr That's neat but how much does it cost? My 12700k at microcenter was only 350 USD - not a bad price at all. I guess one can always spend a lot more money on a massive CPU. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

This is the last Chip for the AM4 Platform and is a worthy upgrade for anyone on said platform who have already invested in their pc.(As in my case .see my sig). Those intel chips are on a brand new platform so on top of the cost of the Intel CPU's you will be factoring the cost of the supporting components (Mainboard at a minimum) Edited April 14, 20224 yr by Maxis AMD Ryzen 9800X3D/ Asus ROG Strix B650E F Gaming WiFi / Asrock Taichi 9070XT / 32GB G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo DDR5 6000 / 2x ADATA XPG 8200 Pro NVME / Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 / Seasonic Vertex 1000w PSU / Lian Li LanCool II Mesh Performance / Asus VG34VQL3A / Topping E70 Velvet DAC & L70 Amp /Sennheiser HD660s2 Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke + TCA Sidestick + TFRP Rudders
April 14, 20224 yr Here is me still On a 9900Ks. With a 3090 at 4K. No Ideas what I am supposed to upgrade to, if it is even worth it?

No your upgrade path is set to an intel 12700K or better CPU /Z690 Chipset and maybe DDR5 if you have the budget for it. If your Happy with the present performance you can sit tight though and wait to see if Raptor lake from intel or Zen 4 from AMD works best for you. I’d say I’m content for now, whilst I await DX12 and see what it brings. Was going to upgrade around November, new case, DDR, CPU etc…. Is raptor lake due then?

The performance boost from a 3800X should be huge (and that goes for any user on AM4 right now really), and it is possible that in MSFS the 5800X3D will edge out even Zen 4 and Raptor Lake coming later this year (which is kind of alright considering that good DDR5 will remain expensive for quite a while). It will be great for those who are CPU-limited. If you are playing at 4K today you'll be GPU-limited in pretty much every scenario (except for those cases where being on the ground hammers the MainThread terribly), but Lovelace and RDNA 3 will probably change that. Im running a 3900x and a 6800 non xt at 4k, i'm only looking to improve ground performance. In the air i can run full ultra & 300 lods at 40+ fps, below 750 ft im hammered below 30fps unless i drop the lod to 100. CPU bound. Currently running 125 lods ultra so i don't have to touch settings to maintain 30+ fps in most scenarios. No jetliners, mostly Kodiiak, TBM, DC6. i'll definately pick up a 5800x3d, if i can get to 200 lods ultra 4k, (i find it difficult above that to appreciate any visual gains), with frames on the ground above 30, ideally 35 as below that I notice staggering with track ir.
