Hi all

Just dropped in a 3080 ti from a 1080 ti, cpu is an i7 8700k, 64 gig ram was not sure what to expect, fps at my local airport in Australia went from 35 to 50-55 at 4k, if only I could afford a 3090 lol, might be of interest to any body in the same boat who is curious

This 3090 would only provide you very little more FPS... but what does interest me more: dont you have more stutters now? When I switched to a 6900XT from my 1080ti, also using the 8700K, I was first amazed by the increased FPS, but sadly, due to suddenly being in a CPU Limit, it was a mere stutterfest...

Only trying to move as much load to the GPU alleviated this, now using render scale 130 at 1440p. Sadly some CPU spikes remain and although FPS are still higher than with the 6900XT, the sim feels slightly less smooth.

Greetings, Chris

I have not done much testing yet but I did notice slight stuttering when I look out the side windows but alleviated with vsync and locking to 30 fps, I have some more playing around to do

The 3080ti is an absolute beast! Pretty much the same grunt as a 3090 but with less vram.

Specs: 11900K (5ghz), 64GB ram 3600mhz, RTX 3080 ti

This to me, is the main issue with MSFS.

Just upgrade my system to 3080ti, very happy with VR results. Good luck!!!

High end with 5090, VR, 2020 & 2024.

Yep my 3080 is amazing but my i9-9900k is hurting...

Interesting discussion, especially as I am thinking of updating my current 7700K, 1080, HD system up to 2K. Currently it's quite smooth locked to 30 fps, but I am stuck on high end graphics, sometimes medium. Are there any links to guides that provide "balanced" system configurations? What would give me a similarly smooth 30 fps experience at 2K, for example, with some headroom for the upcoming group of airliners?

Many thanks in advance.

Trees and other vegetation...I turn them way down and it seems to make the most difference (especially in Atlanta!) in my modest system (10700k 2070super 32gb regular ram), I do the vsync locked at 30, get smooth frames and scenery like this:

This is a freeware mod of downtown Dallas (the building I used to work at is just behind and to the right of the Sheraton), and of course the upcoming PMDG 737 in SWA colors rocketing out of Love Field...I sight I saw daily when I worked there (well...when the winds favored that runway departure) ....all super smooth as I jetted past the scenery.

It seems to make a big difference turning on vsync and locking fps at 30, some GPU grunt in reserve to even out demand perhaps

Yeah....sadly we live in a world where every single machine on the planet is about as unique as each person's DNA strand. 🤪  What pegs one person's GPU makes the other's pur like a kitten being stroked on your lap. 🙂

Tweaking your system is always going to rely on your knowledge of your parts config, no way around it.  Just like painting, me trying to help another painter is tough because even if we're both on Photoshop (not always the case), our versions could be different, I have many custom keyboard shortcuts and macros, my PSD desktop will be different, etc..... I KNOW they wont have certain things setup so I can just say click CTRL+SHIFT+Q to flip your texture vertically.

Oh and one tip here to make the thread not plastered with my pics for every reply....can you please delete the pic out of your replies?  thanks.

I’m running a 1080ti right now and looking to upgrade to the 3080. But unfortunately, prices are STILL too high for my budget.. unless I can find a decent deal on a used one.

/ CPU: Intel i7-9700K @4.9 / RAM: 32GB G.Skill 3200 / GPU: RTX 4080 16GB /

Freight Pilot

Is there a list of CPU's and GPU's pairing for MSFS.

Currently I have an i7-9700k paired with a 1070. I think the 1070 is currently the bottle neck. If I would go the same route with a 3080Ti, would then the CPU become a bottle neck.

A 3080ti will bottleneck the cpu. A 2080 super would be a good match for a 9700k.
