Oil patch people have a tendency to blow all their money while they have it. Not all do , but many do. When the oil flows they live large. When it slows down they often are left with nothing till it goes back up. It just seems to be their nature. I give you the Permian Basin in Texas. Bill W.

I wish humanity, as a species was wealthy enough (who knows, it just might be) that everyone could have access to such resources. In truth however, most of us will never have the chance to experience such things, much less have multiple such ostentatious displays of affluence within shouting range of us on a permanent basis. Yet, water tends to inevitably find its own level.... Meaning, one wonders how long such fantasy worlds can be maintained (in a historical sense) surrounded by the prevailing relative poverty common to the rest of the world.... To me it all seems very fragile, like a soap bubble, unaware of soap bubbles tendencies to pop, eventually.... Edited May 25, 20224 yr by HiFlyer We are all connected..... May 25, 20224 yr Dubai actually earns little from oil compared to it's neighbours, hence it's tourism/flying hub focus.

From what I've just learnt the bulk of their money comes from goods and services. Oil once accounted for 50% of their wealth but now its less than 1%. 😲 Seems they saw the writing on the wall and the future, inevitable decline in the need or their product and reconfigured the economy accordingly. Smart move. Their economy is now focused on tourism. 7 hours ago, birdguy said: Why? Noel Tourism is the focus of their economy now Noel. Spectacular experiences like staying on the "Palm Islands" and yes, the diving experience in the video, and spectacular tower hotels attract tourism.
