streaming ground textures are garbage now

Featured Replies

Hello,

Ever since I upgraded to SU9, the ground textures when using bing data are absolute garbage. They are a blurry mess and then there are pockets of ground that look like the sim used default textures. I am using a wifi connection at around 70-100 Mbps. Has anyone else seen this? Any recommendations? Thank you.

Yes - my textures lately are much worse - and I don't use a Rolling Cache.   Not sure if it was SU9 exactly (maybe I just didn't notice) but certainly in the last 2 weeks or so.   I've tried changing a few settings and resetting my Nividia drivers but nothing seems to help ATM.

I don't see any problem with ground textures and I have been flying all over Europe and the US. . Sounds like internet issues.

It's like being there...........................

Post some screenshots of what you're seeing. Otherwise it's useless discussing these things.

Tried it, some places look better some worse, not worth it in my opinion.

You have to be joking! Have you tried it since the high lod feature was put in?

There are some places where the Bing maps are very good, but the latest Google map mod is SO good! Textures are spectacular!

I just didn't like the idea of making a major change in the way MSFS display's scenery. With all the updates and things that could go wrong, just sounded like a gamble that I didn't feel necessary to me.

Don’t you get the issue where textures are constantly loading in the distance?

Been using it since it first came out, it doesn't change anything in MSFS, and you can also use the "good" version of Bing maps i.e. the latest, which you don't get in MSFS. Best add on available for MSFS bar none. Plus it has it's own cache which I've put on a seperate drive. It works perfectly, very slick and the graphics are 99.999% amazing.

No danger. All the mod does is redirect scenery calls to Google instead of Bing. When the app is closed MSFS will use Bing again. Nothing changed in MSFS itself.

The latest version is looks good and has more map options -  you can even select 'latest Bing Maps' as a mapping option. Texture sharpness with the new 'high LOD' option is amazing!

Are the textures much more consistent overall than the Bing textures (I am thinking about colouration here more than resolution)? I do not have MSFS yet, but I do have experience downloading Bing textures via Ortho4XP_FSX_P3D, and they seem to be a very mixed bag in places.

That is actually one of the issues that I have with streaming photoscenery of the entire globe. I am very fussy where consistency (in both colouration and resolution) is concerned, and any mismatched areas bring out the OCD side of me!

If someone has not seen this

The MSFS2020 Map Enhancement (5.0.7) now gives you the option to choose between several image servers :

- Google mt

- Google klm

- Bing Map (latest) -> later than our version

- ArcGIS

- MapBox

You can also setup a Proxy if needed. And you have several Map Options like High LOD.
