July 1, 20223 yr Gents, I've found myself in a conundrum here, because I've been looking at getting the QW787 for a fair amount of time now, but never got round to it because of the consistent reports of flight-ending bugs related to nosedives and crashes. But in 2022, I would have hopefully imagined that those kind of bugs would have been ironed out by now, so my question is: Is the QW 787 worth 80 USD in 2022? Or should i just save my money for something else. Christopher Bourke Still rocking P3DV4.5 | R7 9800X3D, MSI SHADOW 3X 5070Ti, 32GB PATRIOT Viper 6400 MT/s DDR5
July 1, 20223 yr Christopher, I have never had any of the problems with QW 787. The plane is not a deep simulation like PMDG more like Aerosoft so it is easy to use. You can import SimBrief plans etc. To me it is a no-brainer. Nothing works as smooth as P3D v5.3. MSFS has the eye candy, but P3D has the experience. Let me know if you have any specific questions about the 787
July 2, 20223 yr +1. Do not suffer with any of those issue with QW787 in P3Dv5.3. Runs very well on my system. In fact have over 100+ hours and 40+ flights up to around 5-6 hrs in length underneath my belt without any major problems. Of course for 80 bucks , that's a significant outlay, but if you plan to fly it regularly I would say its worth the money. July 3, 20223 yr I do enjoy the QW 787 and I find f has enough system depth to make it convincing. It is well behaved, at least for me and it has impressive performance and range. This is with the latest ver of both QW and P3D. Do check out the EFB’s built in moving map. It’s a hoot! -B
July 3, 20223 yr None of the bugs you listed. here either. The only downsides in my opinion are the VC textures which are too dark but there is a mod available which improves things. The refresh rates on the instruments isn't great. It would be great to pick it up at 50% off considering it's age and quality relative to newer offerings to be honest but if you are sticking with P3D it's a great offering. I still use it frequently, love the silence of the engine starts very akin to the the real plane, the EFB is very good even if limited in functionality, it works with Aviasoft EFB for EFB and Remote CDU functionality on separate devices, works with a lot of hardware, simbrief and ActiveSky integration and I "thought" they even solicited some feedback on desired future updates for P3D. I'm unsure on that last one though. Now I know this isn't what you asked but I don't know why P3D developers aren't dropping prices on products "up to V5.3" with no future promises of anything beyond 5.3. In other words buying at 1/2 price now doesn't guarantee any future development (other than current commitments) My "guess" is they would be selling a lot more 5 year old add-ons "below" market competition for a brand new platform so that in instances like this it's not such a significant decision. Is it "worth" as much or in some cases more than a brand new release being developed and released in 2022? No, it's not when you look at it like that in my opinion but worth is subjective and if you are still using P3D there is no other 787 option and it's quite good. July 4, 20223 yr @psolk, is this mod available in the QW forums? I've never seen it... maybe because I have this bird since 2020, while v5.3 since March. For the OP, I haven't had any strange behaviors at all, other than the fact I can't use a hardware lever for selecting flaps in the -8. In the -9 and -10 I can use the flap selector without any issues. July 5, 20223 yr i like it. good proformance, The lnav and vnav on it are not too bad. Sure you cant use it to do Hydraulic Press Sys C With Gear Disagree And Elec Gen Drive L, or EFATO at V1 single engine hand flown ILD to Go Around and 2 non precision to land or a Single engine ldg with one left gear stuck retracted for your upcoming OPC/LPC but it will get you from from A-B in a straight line without a ctd, the burns and weights are accurate and it works with v4 and v5 (unlike the 330). But people who do like the hard stuff you could just about get it to do a Eng flame out at 30w for drift down and diversion, Give it a whirl. I quite like it. Once and if they release it for ms2020 thats the game changer for me, but thats for another day. Edited July 5, 20223 yr by fluffyflops

To anyone reading this who is active in that discussion could you please ask them to add the TOGA reference line to the HUD it’s a real major omission, something that’s used on every single take off and really should have been included. 787 captain. Yes I'm not sure how that got past the Beta testers unless it was deliberately omitted. Cheers Steve Hall

July 6, 20223 yr Yes, you obviously have speed pitch and yaw info presented onto your view of the runway, it’s not being used for guidance. Although it can be used in LVO for a “HUD take off” which uses the localiser to give centreline tracking guidance. After rotation you initially pitch the aircraft symbol up to the “TOGA reference line” (around 12 degrees) that I mentioned in the HUD while waiting for the guidance cue symbol to become active and usable. It’s basically the same technique as you’d employ with a proper aircraft like the 747 where you aim for an initial pitch attitude (15 degrees) and hold until the flight director becomes usable at around 100-200ft (later software upgrades allowed the FD to be used almost straight after lift off on the 747)) So, without the takeoff reference line on the QW 787 HUD the proper takeoff technique isn’t available, of course you can still fly the real 787 with an unserviceable HUD and use the PFD for rotation so I’m not saying the QW is unusable but the TOGA reference line in the HUD really should be included. 787 captain.
