GAIST msfs V2

Featured Replies

I had the same problem.  My workaround was to go into the GAIST scenery folder and remove the .bgl files of the areas of the world I don't fly in.  This fixed the freeze problem for me.  The theory is that the latest sim update introduced a limit as to how many .bgl files can be loaded on startup.

I can confirm this.  I had tried everything previously mentioned plus more and same, no load/stuck after click fly.

Now to figure out how many bgl files we can have! I have 606 total in my Community folder (some other stuff like ilvfr).  Will try 1023, 2047.  There's  2158 total in GAIST.... we maybe only need to drop a few to keep Community total below 2048...

I can confirm this, on my machine, 2600, 3060, 21h2, msfs beta10:

If I put more than 1460 "bgl" files in the GAIST Scenery folder, MSFS will lock on loading after fly.

1461 it's broke, 1460 and add bgl files to other Community folder (that has bgi files), it works.

My best guess is MS is wanting developers to decrease use (completely?) of bgi files.  dk tho

Hmmm. Yes but GAIS doesn't lock up for me and I have the full unadulterated install? SU10. Or do you mean there is some kind of limit for the whole Community folder?  SU10 is rock solid for me and my community folder is immense. I don't think there is any such limit and that it must be something else.

When, or if you see the loading bar stop its right movement...press the WINDOWS key...twice...and it will continue...anytime that happens when loading initially, or another airport while the sim is fully loaded.

Yes, it seems to work for most.  But pc's as I'm sure you know... anyway, just messing with it and trying to give some feedback as there is something going on.  Dk the cause and just poking.

Didn't know this!  Will give it a try.  Ya know it's interesting, event viewer doesn't show anything when it happens. Thanks for the info

Same here, no lock ups or crashes and I have the full install of Gaist V2, so the bgl limit is just speculation.

I ended up buying Seafront Simulations Vessels and am happy with that I see boats everywhere. GAIST has more variety of ships but I'm happy with what I have for now.

  • 1 month later...

I have the Beta v2 installed in Communitywith ship traffic set at 7%. I just did a flight from Key West to Ft Lauderdale Executive and did not see one ship on the trip. I have noticed that something has happenedover the last month to where I don't see any ship traffic any more. Any thoughts?

I don't know if this is a fix or if GAIST has just coincidentally not frozen on the last two flights I have done but it has worked for me on two successive flights now where I could not get any flight to load with GAIST in the Community folder.

All that I have done is update the VisualEffectLibrary.xml to include all of the .spb files included in the latest version of GAIST.

In the case that these effects were being called by the add-on, this could have caused a freeze from how I understand the sim to work but does not explain why it only happens sometimes to some people, like me. YMMV

To install this fix and see if it might help you too, make a backup of your \Community\gaist-ultra-BETA\VisualEffectLibs\gaist\gaist-effect\VisualEffectLibrary.xml document and save a new version with the text below that includes all of the .spb files.

Late to this conversation but I've had the same issue with a freeze.   I took out around 1/3 of the bgls into a separate folder and now it msfs doesn't freeze up anymore.

Just a further note, I downloaded the latest files and now with all regions active I'm not getting freezes.  Strange beast this msfs!
