It seems from what I’m reading over the MsFs forums, that the Xbox is super smooth now, to the detriment of the pc, which has stuttering back, that DX12 eliminated on the first beta build.

So far in this Beta (using VR):

  • First Build = Good move forward generally, performance improved, god awful new (Auto) Eye Exposure though which is a massive step backwards
  • Second Build (including the very small update prior) = Still good performance, nothing touched on the Eye Exposure above
  • Third Build (todays) = Step backwards with performance, still nothing on the the awful Eye Exposure and no other VR regressions fixed alongiside obvious UI bugs in this beta still not fixed.

So, for me at least, this Beta is gradually going backwards from a good start. There's still time to sort stuff out, to fix regressions and do *something* with the awful Eye Exposure they've added, but history tells me they practically ignore the forum Votes on anything to do with VR and make it up as they go along. I'm convinced they don't know what they're doing with this tech and they need some help...badly!

I am on PC and it is smooth for me and no stutters panning the view in the cockpit.

Exactly what I’m reading over the other forums. The memory setting they’ve disabled has caused this apparently. Ahhh it’s always so disappointing.

I know. I think there will be some tweaking in the coming months after SU10 releases to sort out the VRAM issues with DX12. Apparently something similar happened in XP11 after they launched Vulkan.

Yeah similar, but I have to add Vulkan was like melted butter it was so smooth, and that is true to this day. It was so smooth it actually felt like real flight. I pray that this happens to msfs one day.

Just installed the update. Yesterday my sim was butter smooth in VR with DX12. Today: total disaster, slideshow stuttering level. And my 3090 fan is suddenly going crazy again, did not notice that for some weeks now.

Now restarting in DX11.

Even with my old, 8GB, 1070, I was getting great performance with no graphics artifacts from the DX12 optimizations in SU10 beta. Now, with today's update, I've lost all the improvements to performance. For me at least, this was a total step backward.

The stutters I'm experiencing are certainly not game-breaking. They are not hard stutters but micro-stutters when panning around. It's noticeable because prior to this panning was silky smooth.

Also they've somehow messed up HDR (not with the latest update though). A lot of people, me including, don't have proper HDR anymore. For some, the dev mode will show SDR, and return to HDR after going to window mode, resizing it and back. But even then it's not the same HDR as pre-SU10. Peak brightness is considerably reduced, there is a lot less contrast and the image now looks a lot more "flat".

Yes, agreed - HDR is not very different from SDR 🤔

That's very unfortunate. They "disabled DX12 memory manager optimization on NVIDIA GPUs due to graphical corruption issues" which many people were experiencing due to VRAM going way past GPUs capacities. It simply wouldn't have been possible to release SU10 in that state, so I guess they had to do something. I'm guessing there will be at least one more update before it goes live.

Could have left it there for us with 3090’s. It worked brilliant. Now I’m just testing it and it’s stutter again on DX12. One step forwards, two back. 👀👀

They discovered DX12 memory optimization was bugged for Nvidia cards, so they have removed it from this public testing build while someone investigates it on a private dev build internally with the intention of fixing and reinstating it eventually. Leaving it in would mean they can't properly, publicly test the rest of the code, which could be adversely affected by the bugged code they have isolated.

This is par for the course. Their aim will be to bring it back, eventually. Don't panic 😉

Did they leave the memory optimizations in for AMD cards ? Considering the Xbox stuff is running more smoothly ?

I would presume so.
