August 4, 20223 yr Personal experience. I bought this a couple weeks back and am very impressed with it. For me this has added greatly to the msfs. I use real world weather when in msfs. In my area we've had some real interesting weather the last couple weeks and it has been present in the sim courtesy of REX - much better than the msfs wx. Based on my experience I suggest having a look at this product.
August 4, 20223 yr My understanding is that it does a good job locally (for VFR) but fails to transition well over longer distances (E.g airliners). Is that your experience also?
August 4, 20223 yr I've got a fairly beefy setup and I still get pretty crummy performance with this app. It also has huge weather shifts which obviously kills immersion pretty badly.
August 4, 20223 yr Will MS/Asobo ever open up the weather system to be fully used by third parties? I'd like to see Active Sky for MSFS, it was great with P3D and never had any issues with it!

And someone with insight said essentially that the way the whole weather system has been deigned it would not be possible to do this without substantial redesign work, and that is just not going to happen. August 4, 20223 yr Both Rex WeatherForce and MSFS both have negatives and positives. 1. MSFS live weather has a local weather model, so clouds and weather can be different in different directions. Rex WeatherForce is a global weather model, so weather is the same everywhere. 2. Because of point 1 above, Rex has to transition from one area to another. MSFS live weather does have transitions since including Metar reports, but those transitions are less noticeable. IMHO, the REX transitions are not immersion killing if the settings are optimised. 3. During REX weather updates, fps can suffer, but this has improved through successive updates. 4. REX currently depicts more cloud types using live weather than MSFS live weather can. MSFS cloud depiction has improved during SU10, but REX still wins out here. For me, REX loses out for points 1-3, but point 4 makes it better overall for my enjoyment in MSFS. Each person will of course make their own judgement - the gains in point 4 may not be sufficient to overcome the negatives in points 1-3. AS simply had the most sophisticated weather on the FSX/P3D platform and to prevent them from doing their work is similar to, for example, locking PMDG out from making planes for MSFS.

AS is based on metar only, MSFS uses new technology based on a global weather model from Meteoblue and only use metars around airports. If done right, this will be much better than AS did in other sims. I think that's probably the main reason they don't want to open it for 3PD. Yes if they can smooth out the transitions between meteoblue and metar zones I think a lot of people will be happy with the weather model. Introducing METARs was in many ways a regression, but I guess in many ways unavoidable due to user demand. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

Will be interesting to see how XP12 handles this, as that sim is also mixing a global model with metar.
