I thought he said Meteoblue only had horizontal wind data and the sim calculates vertical winds, such as updrafts and turbulence based on sun wattage/land type and topology

Whoops yes, I meant horizonal.

Glad to see Canada coming in a WU, been holding off exploring here so it'll be a nice excuse to go explore. Good that the SU10 beta is delayed, they're both learning from past mistakes and listening to the testers. Disappointed in some of the responses to questions, Martial looked blank like he does at times and Jorg smiles pleasantries when he doesn't quite "get" what the question is about. His response to the Beta Bugs question was especially cringeworthy as he clearly didn't get the meaning of the question, Sebs section on Choppers was cool.

Sincerely hope that the updated DEM data for Canada includes Southern Vancouver Island which got broken with the first USA update... Living here, I am acutely aware of being south of the 49th parallel which for many seems to be the default dividing line between the USA and Canada..

Woohoo!  Canada WU, very exciting.  I can’t wait to see the Rockies with the new DEM and hopefully my home (Halifax) sees some photogrammetry…it must be one of the biggest Canadian cities without it so far.

It has photogrammetry in the Microsoft Maps app, so it's a good possibility.

Hehe missed the whole stream due to work stuff, will try to summarize later but I'm sure Chaotic will have something soon... I guess also watch this space https://forums.flightsimulator.com/tag/q-and-a-replay where MS/Asobo will put up a detailed written summary/log.

Oh excellent, I forgot about checking that, seems very likely then since they clearly have the data.

My quick summary (cc @Krakin):

SU 10 delay: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1565642019?t=00h11m21s

Working with Nvidia on memory optimization problem with DX12, waiting on Nvidia for fix soon: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1565642019?t=00h12m49s

Multi-monitor support: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1565642019?t=00h18m38s

- VNAV, curved legs, RF legs, RNAV,
- VFR map has lots more now: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1565642019?t=00h28m48s
- my thoughts: overall impressive stuff and definitely looks to be the most complex and high fidelity default avionics in a sim
- feature discovery video(s) coming very soon

How weather is injected and rendered (Seb): https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1565642019?t=00h37m06s
- humidity, pressure, winds, clouds, etc from meteoblue in columns (approx 60 layers)
- METAR pulled regularly for all airports around you, and blended together.. blended differently based on different data sources
- Meteoblue itself is doing some blending with METAR data into their global model
- Asobo don't re-inject METAR data into clouds since that's coming from Meteoblue
- Above 1000 feet or >=2km out from airport, only on Meteoblue
- all of above hasn't changed in quite a while in terms of data sources, but Asobo did some fixing around the blending algorithms
- only horizontal winds from Meteoblue, vertical (i.e. updrafts) are computed real-time which considers terrain, sunlight & sun position and clouds and overall light incoming, atmosphere thickness to compute overall light measured in watts hitting ground, then they consider ground type (i.e. grass, plain, water, etc), and ground surface temperature, and other factors to all feed into drafts/thermals calculations

World update Canada: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1565642019?t=00h56m06s
Africa is likely next

Next famous flyer: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1565642019?t=01h00m26s

Helicopters update (Seb): https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1565642019?t=01h07m23s
- working with real world helicopter pilots
- new feature to show air flow on/around helicopter
- everything simulated accurately (not just raw performance #s, but impact of ground effect and various other aspects)
- will show a lot more of this next week at gamescon Aug24-28

They'll reveal lots on SU11 (40th anniv edition) soon

Sorry but I couldn't do one, I only watched small parts of the stream since I am extremely tired and my connection is acting up as usual. Here are a few things that I can recall to add to the summary above:

  • For 2nd anniversary celebrations, all official Microsoft/Asobo DLC will be discounted on the Marketplace for a couple of days.
  • With the delay, the team will use the extra time to fix more bugs and a memory optimisation that's causing performance issues on DirectX 11.
  • In the first beta build they enabled a memory manager optimisation for NVIDIA cards on DirectX 12, but it had to be disabled because it was causing artifacts in some cases. They are working closely with NVIDIA to rectify these artifacts and restore the performance that has been lost with newer builds.
  • They are also working with NVIDIA to improve the DLSS implementation. For the glass cockpits, they will attempt to use a mask to exclude them from the algorithm, which should fix the blurring and ghosting. These improvements should come with Sim Update 11.
  • FSR 2.0 is not coming with Sim Update 10 as they are still waiting on new features from AMD. The release date is not yet known.
  • Multi-monitor supports up to 7 displays and a multi-camera system. There is still no way to adjust the FoV for each separate mode as of currently, but this will come in the future. For now, the zoom slider can be used.
  • The low power mode was created based on community feedback, and will reduce the GPU load in the menus and also decrease the frame rate when using the console or minimising the game window. They would like the community to let them know if there's anything else they should do.
  • WASM on Xbox is mostly done, but more testing is required.
  • The loading times were improved by removing the package containing the "Press Any Key" video, reducing the executable size, making API calls faster, optimising the packages, and rewriting the PlayFab (Azure) server requests. There are still a few things left to optimise.
  • Most issues on the Xbox, including crashes and black screens, are related to memory. The recent beta build has helped identify some of the issues.
  • It is a misperception that new issues in the beta are ignored, the beta test is happening for that reason and they are not ignoring anything. They are constantly reprioritising since constantly adding new features will usually break something else.
  • The Bonanza V-35, made by Carenado, is now available in the Marketplace. The CEO of Carenado goes into detail on how faithfully they recreated this iconic aircraft, and he explains that the biggest challenge was to simulate the unique V-tail correctly.
  • The team will be at Gamescom for an exciting new announcement, including a mysterious "CU I" on the roadmap.

I'm guessing CU stands for Content Update.

CU1 stands for “career update 1” and will be a Neofly type of persistent career mode.

I’ve made this prediction about every other surprise announcement and have been proven wrong. I feel good about it this time - sooner or later I will be right!

It was included in the row along with World Updates, so Continent Update is the first thing that came to my mind. Jörg said something about Africa as well.

Only a few more days to find out at least.

He said that in relation to the Canada World update, so I think he meant it would be a future world update.

I was guessing Continent Update (Africa or Antarctica), but why change to CU? Could just as well be called a World Update. So I have no idea what it is 🙂
