What planes do you find yourself flying the most, and why?

Featured Replies

I'm curious what planes people fly and why.

Right now I seem to be flying the V-tail most of the time, partly because I want to play with steam gauges and partly because it's compatible with both my PC and living room Xbox.

Though, once I start doing more serious flying I may switch over to one of the PC mod only Warbirds or steam gauge overhall planes.

What are your primary planes, and why?

I alternate between the Kodiak, the Milviz C 310 and the Fenix A 320.  Can't see buying any other aircraft, these three do just about everything, and they all fly great.

Black Squares Analg Gran Caravan,

Kodiak and

Fenix A320, closely followed by the FBW NEO.

Sometimes also the FlyingIron Spitfire Mk IXc

Used to be the Fenix in 1st place, but lately I do not have much time for simming and am more involved in testing XP12... so... the Caravan and the Kodiak are great for short hops / circuits around LPMT...

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

I work as a refueler at Eindhoven Airport (EHEH) so I like to do the flights from and to EHEH with the pmdg 737 and flybywire a320.

When I do not have much time I like to do some vfr in the USA.

Cub, Super Cub, NXCub, Kitfox, Husky, Zenith etc.

I am a sucker for this class of aircraft. Always have been. Go anywhere, land anywhere, easy to fly, super responsive. They give me the best sense of actually being in flight. More so than any other simulated aircraft I think.

If the incoming Wilga is as good as it looks, I will be in heaven.

I alternate a lot, I rarely fly the same plane more than 2 days.
Fly pretty much every plane in MSFS, but I fly the big airliners the least.

Was flying the Milviz c310 lately, I still even use the Carenados PA44 sometimes, as it is pretty fun.
I even fly the TBM and the King Air quite often. Probably the c310, TBM, King Air, and Carenado PA44 are the most common.

Rarely lately, but occasionally, I will fly the Longitude, Trislander, PMDG 737-600, and sometimes the DA-62.

I picked up the V35B by Carenado-MS and it's just OK. It might grow on me later.

If you have to just buy a couple planes, I would say the c310 should be 1 of the 2.
Some Carenados are worth it on sale, they are pretty decent actually, fly a lot better than default planes for the most part.

(I will admit, every time I see TBM, it takes me a moment to go "Oh, Socata TBM, not Grumman (GM) TBM..." One day, maybe we will have both 'TBM's to fly. One day.)

I'm saving the bush class for after I get my Colorado and Montana airports finished, then it should be more fun. There is a serious lack of custom airports in Montana. Just flew to Glacier Intl, and using Google imagery it actually looked pretty decent. That area is usually completely messed up in Bing, but I am about to test Bing again as I didn't have the US World Updates installed (dev reasons).

Overall so far, I prefer Bing imagery for most other areas, even though Google is better at times it has issues with blending, though I haven't tried the higher LOD paid version either.

Really enjoying the Asobo A320neo, I fly it the most. Followed by the Caravan.

I have had clear weather using Live weather 90% of the time flying Western US until today, for like 2 months I didn't see barely a cloud. Drought most places in the West, though starting to end now hopefully.

In GA I fly the Robin DR400 mainly. The included one has the 100 PS engine, it's reeeeally weak in everything but flies quite nicely and is not a 172. Also it has a rather nice canopy, nice to look around. It's a low wing though. The performance of the (stock) 100 PS version is pretty spot on IMHO. There are mods with better engines as well.

As for heavy metal it's the 737 so yeah.

Laminar Research customer -- Asobo/MS customer -- not an X-Aviation customer - or am I? 😉

The Fenix A320, by far, followed by the PMDG 737. When the two planes came out in May I was sure I would fly the 737 just as often as the 320, if not more often, but now in about 90% of my flights I choose the Fenix. One of the reasons is that because of the long absence of a proper 737 in MSFS and thanks to FBW I got used to the Airbus and it really grew on me (I almost exclusively flew Boeings in XPlane and FSX). Another important reason is the EFB in the Fenix. I only fly in VR and this excellent EFB allows me to stay in VR for most of the flight. I‘m really looking forward to PMDG‘s EFB and hope it‘ll motivate me to fly the 737 more often.

The Flysimware 414 Chancellor. It's fast, has a pressurised cabin, range 1328nm ceiling 30800ft cruise 203kts. And it's extremely well done in every way.

After the 414, a number of GA (payware/freeware) depending on length of flight, runway length, cruise altitude and daily preference. I like variety, so I probaby have 10-12 planes I fly on a regular basis. The analog Caravan is quickly becoming my 2nd favourite though, as it can get in and out of those tiny airfields as well as having the capability of going both high and relatively fast.

In terms of freeware / modded defaults, I fly the G36, 152, DA40NGX and DA62 quite often. And recently I've flown the V35 a lot as it's just a fast, fun and pretty GA aircraft that's nicely done by Asobo/Carenado.

I am going for the Carenado PC-12 next, I need something comparable in speed to the King Air.
Hopefully they release a patch soon.

The no fuss, no muss HJET.  Lets me get into the air quickly to enjoy the great MSFS scenery.
