Way back in Fall of 2020 someone here posted a modded file: 10-asobo_species.xml

But he wasn't using a community folder mod, he had changed that Asobo file in the Official folder. I was using that but at the first sim patch I had to redownload umpteen gigabytes of files because the default file had been changed. Early days and I didn't realize that community folder mods keeps that sort of mess from happening during updates. So I was happy when someone uploaded the mod to flightsim.to. (because I don't know how to use jason files to make a mod myself. But I know how to edit text in someone else's LOL.

With some freeware addons and Canada PG disabled, I think there's some hope for Vancouver.

Hi,

Asobo must check these three things: mesh, photogrammetry and vegetation.

Regards.

I don't understand why I'm not getting anything like the pictures here of Vancouver and Toronto.  I have made several flights at both cities with PG on, and everything is normal.

I do have Project YVR Vancouver scenery (joelster-airport-cyvr-vancouver) in my Community folder and had it before and after the update.

The only thing I have encountered is I was flying near Jasper and the elevation in the river was jumping around.  I could see it doing it in the distance but as I got closer it corrected itself.

It says in your profile you are from Waxhaw, NC, right? I'm just asking, because if you have lived in Vancouver for some time, you would be familiar with some of Vancouver's landmarks.  Unfortunately, some of those landmarks look melted and look like a war zone with the Canada World Update. For example, here are two popular landmarks in metro Vancouver:

Gransville Street bridge (this is an iconic bridge in Vancouver and was used in the filming of Deadpool 2):

4bdfd0297c10bd096aea23b7265046727078da17

Metrotown shopping center (the largest shopping center in metro Vancouver):

04ac6ceef43d274835bfd5ed3783656df4a7bc1a

If you get better photogrammetry than this for Granville Street bridge and Metrotown (note the camera angle and location of Metrotown, please use the same camera angle and location), please post your screenshots here.

I doubt it though, unless your Project YVR scenery package is overriding the photogrammetry.  Everyone is getting bad photogrammetry like this in metro Vancouver. I am using these 2 as examples because they are famous landmarks in metro Vancouver, but there are a lot of other minor buildings and less famous landmarks that also have this melted look.

Why this is an issue is because a Canadian city can have good photogrammetry, as Edmonton has shown. If you fly around Edmonton in MSFS, the photogrammetry quality is quite good. It just isn't good for Vancouver in this Canada World Update.

Could someone remind me why it’s better to remove the WU PG. Does Vancouver actually look better?

Anyone flown the Rockies? Is the mesh better with or without the WU? Thanks

I removed it already. I don't get the melted, apocalyptic bridges in Vancouver anymore. And the photogrammetry for downtown Vancouver also looks better.  I don't get this from the Canada World Update for downtown Vancouver:

It's possible the WU contains challenges that use these aircraft. Unfortunately you can't install part of the WU (but you can remove parts afterwards)

Thank you

I wish I knew how to post a screenshot because I flew around Vancouver several times at 1000 ft and everything was normal  The bridge was normal.  Everything perfect. And I'm using photogrammetry.

I didn't mention Niagara Falls in my post, but since then there has been a post about it.  I had flown over it back and forth since the upgrade and it also looks normal.

To me it looks more like a server problem more than anything else.  Surely Asobo would not release it with these glaring errors.

I guess we can't rule out server issues. Wouldn't be strange as the servers tend to get overloaded after major releases, and in weekends. I had very bad PG though without any connection warnings.

Another thing - the elevation is really quite excellent in places. I've not seen any anomalies yet. Going to post a couple of pictures once I land in Edmonton.

Press the "PrtScn" button to copy your screenshot. Then save your screenshot in Windows Paint as a JPG or PNG file. You can then upload your JPG or PNG file to https://imgur.com/upload.

After you upload it, get the link from imgur.com and then you can post the link here at Avsim and we can see the picture.

I am 99% certain that everyone is getting the same melted photogrammetry in Vancouver.  Everyone here at Avsim, plus everyone at the official MSFS forum is reporting the same thing, that the photogrammetry in Vancouver is melted.  That's why there is an entire thread in the Bugs forum asking people to vote on Asobo to improve the photogrammetry for Vancouver after this Canada World Update: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/vancouver-area-looks-terrible-after-wu11/546333/18. You are the lone person that claims it's not melted but to verify, you should post the picture of Granville street bridge and Metrotown, if you aren't getting melted photogrammetry.

Maybe you disabled the photogrammetry from the Canada World Update for Vancouver, in which case the bridges and buildings look better because it's using autogen?

I won't rule it out, but I have yet to see a proper picture of the major landmarks in Vancouver, that isn't melted. Nobody has posted a single picture of the landmarks in Vancouver that aren't melted, not here at Avsim, and not at the official MSFS forums. Mind you, there are add-ons for Vancouver from flightsim.to but those really don't count because they are handcrafted: https://flightsim.to/discover/vancouver

Why I don't think it's a server issue is because the photogrammetry for Edmonton is very good. So if it's a server issue, I would expect Edmonton to have bad photogrammetry too but Edmonton doesn't, the photogrammetry for Edmonton is quite good.

I just did another flyover of Vancouver and everything is still okay as I reported it. Checked my settings and Photogrammetry is still ON.

Will see if I can get the screenshot as you suggested.

No problem. If you can post your pictures, it would help us troubleshoot the issues with Vancouver. FYI, to locate the landmarks I am talking about in MSFS, the location of Metrotown shopping center is here:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Metrotown,+Burnaby,+BC,+Canada/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x5486765a145241a1:0x71176245ed5a206?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiRg-T--L76AhVHed4KHfNuDO4Q8gF6BAh2EAE

And Granville bridge is here:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Granville+Bridge/@49.2726148,-123.1331489,15z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xa61bd203d6fdec42?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiev4aS-b76AhWHBd4KHftcCisQ_BJ6BQiQARAF

Although if you are using some of the Vancouver add-ons at flightsim.to, Granville bridge may have been hand crafted. For Metrotown shopping center though, maybe it's not handcrafted yet.
