Norm, that sounds suspiciously like a rant. Come back gentle, kind Norm. 🥰

Perhaps they've given up now and are letting MSFS flop into oblivion.  That might explain this apparently heinous update.  I've not seen any of it yet myself.

You didn't have to delete the entire update, can just delete the photogrammetry package. No sense losing those airports too, unless you have no plans to flying to any of them.

Thanks Tuskin38.. Yep I know, I figured out the source of the ugly bits). For those who may no know it is to remove the folder/contents of the official folder "fs-base-coverage-map-canada-tin" to stop the call of the ugly PG. (And the rest stays intact!).. but yest to run pre-wu11 PG which is far superior to PG in WU11.

Harry, is the bad something that people not familiar w/ Van and Toronto wouldn't notice, or is it just melted buildings or something like that that anyone can notice?  Just curious as I'm not flying in Canada at the moment...

It depends on height and distance. But flying between CYVR and Vancouver downtown at 3000-4000 ft circling around the city, the issues are clearly visible. There a some bridges which look really ugly. Take Off at CYTZ and looking towards Toronto downtown is even worse imo. I have Canada PG disabled for now. Using some Vancouver and Toronto add-ons, these cities look much better than they do with WU11.

Like I really don't understand, Niagara Falls and the Niagara Area, one of our biggest attractions, world renowned, still poor. Our three largest cities and other most visited cities, (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, (Ottawa, Calgary, Victoria, and more) all worse after the wu11 update as far as the PG and terrain elevations are concerned. Also many areas of the mountains, rivers now have worse elevations than pre-wu11.. Why is this? still begs an answer to that question.

Yes, when it comes to your home country being updated, it hits a little harder. Aspects of the update with the prominent cities you mention are truly embarrassing. It seems to me lately, that there is too much on Asobo’s plate to meet deadlines without proper quality control checks. As the MSFS operations get larger and larger, more stuff slips through the cracks and the original level of quality in the updates takes a hit.

Ralph, the programmer of plenty of Canadian airports under the Simaddons label, states:

First let's say WU11 has nothing to do with Asobo!
Each World Update is a contract between Microsoft and 3rd party companies.
Have a look inside your MSFS folder or the Content Manager, all WU is named with Microsoft, not Asobo.

It's worth reading the full text as he is detailing who contributed which pieces to the Canada WU. (You might need a login to read the forum.)

Okay, thanks for the info. Well, that does not look good for the 3rd party developers that produced the update for Canada and blemishes Microsoft's quality control check process.

It says "Microsoft" on the tin, so Microsoft deserves the credit and the blame for the contents 😉

For those who haven't discovered this yet, there are several excellent freeware add-ons for Toronto and Vancouver, available on flightsim.to, that make WU Canada look much better - e.g., a great-looking CN Tower and Vancouver bridges. These work fine with photogrammetry on. I realize that residents of those areas may have higher standards, but to me the combination looks great. With these fixes, and the fact that WU Canada makes many other areas of that country look much better - for example, Quebec -- I am happy with this update.

At least with this update I have discovered how to move the contents of the OneStore folder to a custom folder and switch things on/off. As best I can tell WU11 comprises of 16 folders all of which I have moves to a custom folder. I've compared Toronto from the wold update to Roman Design to the default PG version. Lots of the building Downtown Toronto in the previous PG version of Toronto look a lot better than they do in the WU. What's with that? Are they dumbing the AI down? I though there was a machine learning element to this PG stuff. Assuming the data of the new version is better or at least the same as the previous version in both instances the end result should be better, right?

Anyway, Each had its pros and cons in my eye. Roman design goes all the way up to yonge and sheppard but with patches in between. All in all I'm going to stick with the world update and go get a CN Tower from flightsim.to

At least we have a host of great freeware options. I'm sticking with Roman's Toronto for now, although I think I like FreakyD's CN tower the most.

Yeah I just added that CN Tower. Thanks for the link. Definitely improves things. I do see that the developer of Toronto for the WU did a hand crafted 1 Bloor West. That Building wasn't there when I lived in Toronto. I'm not sure its even complete? But the banks etc. are awful. PG is never perfect. Sometimes its very good but I don't understand how they could go backwards.

Yeah, 1 Bloor west is under construction

Yea, I thought this was strange -- it is under construction, but completion is currently scheduled for 2024 or 2025.

Such a disappointing update and it will probably be 2024 or 2025 before they circle back around to Canada. I reinstalled Roman's GTA package which has helped a good deal.
