Is it LOD, photogrammetry impact, network or something else?

I'm used to scenery, both landscape and objects, morphing, taking shape and filling themselves in as I approach but have never fully understood why or what jargon describes the problem. An example was yesterday when I flew to Compton Abbas for which I have some custom scenery. I spotted hardly any evidence of an airfield as I overflew it but then as I turned and came in to land I saw all the signs and runway markings popping up/taking shape. After landing static aircraft then popped into view, not always complete, with wheels getting added as I got closer. The fence was also a growing thing with extra sections of fencing getting added on as I taxied alongside it, not especially far into the distance.

If its relevant, I hadn't booted up MSFS in over a month so first time on SU10 and I didn't delete any cache or any other clean up tasks like that. Reminds me I should do that....

you say its a custom field, so it will be in the cache, clear and try again.

Compton Abbas

Thanks for the heads up on this. I'd not seen it before.

This problem exists since quite some time. 3D objects of runway and tax signs show up very late when you just approaching them, often in a distance of only 30-40 feets. Nothing what we can do. It is not TLOD or PG related and I doubt it is a server problem.

Nice little airfield that ive visited in real life several times.  I do have the freeware addon which is pretty realistic compared to the RW.  Difficult to spot in from the air unless you know the area and a nice short flight into Old Sarum from time to time (which also has a nice freeware scenery).

Are you kidding me? Does this happen at every airport, including the big payware ones?

Thanks I'll try a cache clear and give it another go.

not sure about "every" but I have it at many airports. Also see https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/taxiway-signage-popping/470985

Isn't this the same problem as with the solid bridges? Or is that solved in the mean time without me knowing it?

I have this all the time. It's LOD related, but need to have the LOD quite high to have the runway visible from a distance. Decrease the LOD to say 100 and the runway will become blurry just after takeoff. Finding some of these smaller airports can be easier at night - if they have any lights.

Last time I was planning to go to Compton Abbas I was determined to find it without GPS. I failed. I was flying around in the area were I thought it was supposed to be, but I had to give up. I even tried following a VOR radial from Southhampton to no avail.

When I do find it though it's a very nice little airfield. Highly recommended.

That's right. Even at very close range, you will have blurry textures. At LOD 100 in some airports you will struggle to see the apron gate number markings, set it to 200 and it will be fine. Same with taxi line, etc. It's so silly that this is handled this way. LOD for buildings trees, mountains should be a handled separate from close textures.

Every time I even think about purchasing MSFS, I hear about yet another little "issue" that stops me in my tracks. I do not have a massively powerful PC, so possibly having to limit myself to settings that would result in limitations like these are not exactly encouraging.
