Fenix A320 - performance and remote MCDU

Featured Replies

The Fenix A320 is the far more complete package, and far ahead of the competition at the moment. at launch it came with the EFB ready and working, and at a cheaper price point. Do your own research there are far too many with vested interests that frequent these forums.

How is its performance? Is it as smooth as PMDG?

I have only completed 2 flights, but both have been on par with the 737 and 738.

Surprised me a bit because they are a tough act to follow.

Pmdg is by far the best and complete airliner, it has all of its own software not dependent on Prosim contracts, so I can use all of my hardware!

I don’t understand the Fenix hype, it has a lot of problems too for a lot of simmers which I don’t see solved in the near future!

Read the PMDG 737 forum. Quite a few issues that pilots are reporting. https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/pmdg-737-for-msfs

🤣It's funny how posts like these quickly become, "X is the best product". That statement is subjective at best. It quickly reminds you of the Airbus vs Boeing debate. For the purchaser, it comes down to what YOU are looking for in a product. In my subjective view, I have always looked at aircraft in a practicality light. How practical is it for me to go from point A to point B. Am I working hard with calculations during the flight or am I pressing a couple of buttons, watching the automation and discussing my golf swing. Within flight sim, will the aircraft behave and operate realistically during my flights. That's a low bar, but a satisfying one. I know people get caught up in things such as EFBs. Honestly, in the real world, I use my EFB more outside of the jet than I do inside of the jet. At the hotel, I am checking weather, filing and looking at routes/documents. In the jet, I only use it when I need to refer to a document or manual. I use it more if I am teaching. I can definitely go from point A to point B without it.

My favorite aircraft in sim is the MD80. Probably because it's my all time favorite aircraft. I flew DC10s for 10 years, so I'm partial to Micky D jets. I can get in the 80, prep it, fly it and land it without issue. I mainly fly the 80, 37 and the 320 here and there. I have issues only with the Fenix 320. It gives me these 3 to 4 second pauses during taxi to the runway and on arrival. I had my first CTD yesterday on taxi out after installing the latest update. I hate spending the time it takes setting up and have it crash at taxi out. After that, I'm done for the day. I will re-install it and see if that helps. I never have issues with the 37 or 80.

The fenix requires some calibration in order for it to be "not as hard on your system" The aircraft has working CB which i have never touched. I consider it the more systems complete aircraft and on my system it is a decent bird with all the navigation features working ... (cough ....."final app" missing ....FBW)

The PMDG for me is the more enjoyable aircraft to fly.. I don't get the big deal about this missing flight bag issue because where i came from i never had one in the first place (Freeware FS9 AC) and i think the integration of the flight bag features in the FMC + simbrief down loader integration is just as good as the heralded flight bag so i personally am not missing a thing.

I have a few hundred flights on the A 320, and have never had that happen.

I use the PMDG the vast majority of the time, but I like both aircraft a lot. The issue I am trying to get clarification (as I mentioned in another post) is why I can only use the Fenix on one PC (hence why I use the PMDG much more). This is literally the only aircraft (and I have had almost all of the tubeliners going back to FSX & P3D) that I can only activate on one PC. I don't understand why this is the case, and having to split my flying between two different computers (both are in the same home which is the only home I own), this is definitely an inconvenience. That said, the Fenix and the PMDG 737's are both great aircraft. I am hoping to get a response from the Fenix team about this issue. I apologize in advance for partially hijacking this thread.

Cheers, Pete

I like the Fenix also a lot but would love to have a remote overhead panel and cdu with it and that it can transmit data to my Mcp! That would be heaven!

I mean, it does take all of 10 seconds to do this - all you have to do is have it installed on both systems and when you want to use a different system, log into your account on the website, go to settings and click RESET LICENSE. Run it on your new PC. Rinse and repeat each time you change system.

@Aamir  Any chance we will see a MCDU that can be used via 3rd party hardware or external software popouts?

5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW  and 2  22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU,  360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next

I never understood why we haven’t got remote CDU yet. I stopped flying this airplane because I am getting tired using computer mouse clicking button in the sim. I really enjoy PMDG remote CDU and CPFliight MCP panel. Very easy and enjoyable. And PMDG is way more smoother for me than A320.

There is already a Cdu via external software popouts:

https://github.com/Simstrumentation/Air-Manager/tree/main/Instruments/A320 (Fenix)

However I would like a remote Cdu it is a lot of hassle with spacedesk and popouts with this one

I cannot make promises here - 3rd Party Hardware is, to a great degree, something limited by our licensing agreement with ProSim. Logically speaking it's a slippery slope - they're cockpit builders, we're desktop line. So, there's a blurred line between the two of "I only use one or two bits, not a whole flight deck!", but I am lobbying in the background (when not drowning in software changes to Fenix). Software, on the other hand, like remote MCDUs and the sort - they're on the radar.
