October 28, 20223 yr Hello, Fellows! Could you advise the most convenient and optimal software for sim video capture? I know that many people use nvidia shadow play. Other use OBS software. Nvidia shadow play, as far as I understand, consumes less fps, but loads CPU with it processes running in the background. OBS consumes more FPS, as I heard. What are your opinios regarding the matter? Thanks in advance! Intel i9-13900K, GIGABYTE GAMING Z790, GeForce RTX4090, 32GB
October 28, 20223 yr I always use Shadowplay. It is the most straightforward and not that demanding in terms of resources.
October 28, 20223 yr I agree with Steve about Shadowplay. I have tried several other options and have come to the absolute conclusion that Nvidia Shadowplay is by far the best. You can record in 4k or 1080HD with different framerates too. I have not had any stutters either in any format, whether recording 4k or 1080. October 28, 20223 yr I would probably use shadowplay if I had GFE installed. Xbox game bar is only up to 1080p and 60fps. Another possibility is MSI Afterburner, but I think that’s limited to 1080p as well. AFAIK with every software video capture there will be inherent issues due to way the capture itself eats resources. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
October 28, 20223 yr I used shadowplay for all my youtube videos. Seems to produce less artifacts (ie better compression) from my tests than the other software capture suits when saving video. October 29, 20223 yr If you're just starting out; Shadowplay, it's simple, straightforward, has very little 'hit' on your system compared to others and makes for nice, easy uploads to YouTube without quality loss. Don't forget to add some music! Edited October 29, 20223 yr by DD_Arthur

Just had the idea of putting this on my E-cores and MSFS on the P-cores. That way they shouldn’t compete for CPU cycles. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

I concur 😎 Just too bad no copyright music is allowed. I made this really fun video a while ago with a whole soundtrack. Of course I was not allowed to post it publicly. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
October 29, 20223 yr I just tried shawdowplay, and kind of disappointing. When you play it back, it plays back on a small screen with a large border around it. Can't see anyway to have it playback full screen.

The secret is to set it at 4320p 8K capture with a maximum bitrate at 30FPS. I'm vsynced to 30FPS (well, using RTSS now a bit differently) FWIW. Here is a video I did a while back to demonstrate something in the AS CRJ. Be sure to set the video quality on the YouTube video to whatever your screen resolution is for best results. October 29, 20223 yr Decided to give Action! a go. Intuitive interface, lots of options. Different settings for hardware encoding (NVENC, HEVC), video quality (bitrate), resolution (up to 2160p), framerate (variable frame rate on/off). Can record in MP4 or AVI. Still not 100% happy though - there's some stutters when panning around in the cockpit that were not there without the recording. October 29, 20223 yr I just use Windows GameBar to do it, mostly because I am lazy and hate Nvidia Experience! G Gary Davies aka "Gazzareth" Simming since 747 on the Acorn Electron
