I am loving the Beaver!  Especially with the new WT GNS 530!  Currently island hopping from TNCM.

Looks like there is already an Improvement Mod for it, pending approval.

Wow that is quick and cool.  I bet we will see a Ski mod soon for it as well.

Really curious how these mods get done?  We have seen them on some other default models as well.  Back in the day you had to have the original source files to this sort of thing but now not sure?  Is it the original developer or one of its employees sort of sneaking these mods out?  Back in FSX/P3D days someone who was really talented could hex edit the mods but this is tough and time consuming.  It was only done a few times I think!

If you see mods like this I wonder how long it will be before someone edits out the winglet's on the PMDG model for example?

Take my opinion w/ a grain of salt (never flown a real aircraft unless you count a paragliding wing), but I love this plane. None of the other bush planes around have really caught me, but this thing just feels right. I flew a short route in PNG the other day and had a blast w/ it. Basic or otherwise, I'm happy to suddenly have it in my hangar.

@Dermot McClusky I haven’t flown the Beaver yet, but your enthusiasm reminded me of an XP video that I did for the DHC2 Beaver. Just another idea for a flight in this sim! Olympic National Park is the among the most remote bush country in the Continental US.

This is fantastic, thank you! Finding great routes can be a challenge; I usually close my eyes and point, but this should make for a lot of fun. I've bookmarked the video for a closer look later on. I've been watching a ton of videos for airliners and traditional IFR routes, but this is a good reminder that I need to look for VFR and/or bush trip videos for tips. My flights are usually very haphazard, and I think extra planning would add a lot to the enjoyment.

I did a test flight with it and did this which I also do in any Beaver.

Full rpm and mixture. Full throttle and take of. Continue flying with max power. That worked fine and is after what I know completely unrealistic. A Beaver att max power would soon overheat and break down. For me a virtual Beaver needs this to be modeled. Will we get it ?

Interesting insight. I agree, if that's something that shouldn't be possible IRL, it should be modeled as such. One thing I appreciate about the Milviz Corsair was the ability to blow the cylinder heads (before I knew what I was doing w/ it I killed my pilot on a canyon run from overheating the engine).

In the meantime, I'll just pull back on the throttle after the initial climb and pretend it would blow if I didn't 🙃

I hope some developer will take this on. The beaver is the kind of aircraft that needs to be fully modeled, including a degree of failures like overheating the engine. The current implementation is really quite unrealistic. It is fine for a free, default plane, which is what it is, I just hope that does not deter some developer from going a little deeper.

I read on my phone about this project and how Asobo/M$ acquired it and the agreement that was made on another forum.  If I understood it correctly the complete source files are available to whoever wants them.  If this is indeed true then its very likely in time the Beaver will become the most heavily modded default plane in history.

With a plane like the Beaver you have so many options and variables.  Its at the point that almost no 2 Beavers are the same.  Milviz/Blackbird likely does not have the time our resources to do them all but if those source files are open then the community can do them.

DHC-2 Beaver Action Pack

The DeHavilland DHC-2 Beaver was released for Microsoft Flight Simulator during the 40th Anniversary Update. This aircraft was probably my favorite addition to the simulator, however, it was lacking some visual effects, camera settings, weight dynamics, and bush modifications. I originally began my journey by just adding 35" Bush Wheels to her. After reading some forum posts, I quickly started spiraling down the rabbit-hole. This modification was originally meant to be my personal modifications, but I had some interest within the community to release it to the public. I hope you like the new features and fixed modifications, any suggestions are welcome.

IMPROVEMENT MODIFICATIONS (Version 1.0.1.):
  • Added 35" Bush Wheel Bone Animation Compatibility with Original Gear

    • Now your tires and gear will react appropriately to Weight and Compression when landing.
IMPROVEMENT MODIFICATIONS (Version 1.0.0.):
  • Added New Bush Variant: DHC-2 Beaver 35" Bush Wheels
    • Ability to Select Any "Base" Game Livery
    • Compatibility with Future Liveries if the Artist(s) add it to their Folder Layout.
  • Added New Water Effect: Amphibious Water Spray
    • Working on Improving these for the Next Update!
  • Added New Start-Up Effect: Start-Up Combustion Burst
  • Added Hide Feature: Hide Tablet (Use On/Off Tablet Button)
  • Added Hide/Unhide Feature: Hide/Unhide Tablet (Use Alternator Warning Lamp Test)
    • Will Find Better Clickable in the Future!
  • Fixed Camera Feature: Quick view Cameras (Left, Right, Up, Down, Rear)
  • Fixed Flight Dynamics: Elevator Authority Modified (Feels Slightly Heavier)
CREDITS:
  • Jonx: Project Management, XML Modifications, GLTF Merging, Animations, .CFG Modifications
  • Mykrode: 35" Bush Wheels 3D Model

Great video. It's a shame we almost can't hear the engine inside the cockpit in the MSFS Beaver. They should fix that.
