I'm mostly like you in that regard.  When MSFS debuted so many were anxious to start loading up 3rd party everything and I avoided that like the plague!  I had tried an original version of an alternate ribbon and didn't like it so will see if the subtle, animated one is better.

Okay I tried this one and I would call it ideal!  It simply uses small green dots that look like the green taxiway center line markers and stays just a few dots out from your plane it is a definite keeper for me.  NOT the animated version, but this one:  subtle-taxi-ribbon

You have crash detect turned on?

Me personally, I always keep it turned on. While it is no doubt debatable how accurate the tolerances are for each aircraft, it keeps my flying "honest". Knowing you can wreck your flight by doing extreme maneuvers, landing too hard etc helps "encourage" you to get it right. With it on I never have an issue. Most devs are getting it right to be able to open a window in flight without a crash now too. Last night I took the Longitude out for a spin, first time in over a year as I wanted to try out the new AAU beta changes. My landing was horrible, really thumped it down as I came in far too slow over the threshold - but it was not a crash. After a few expletives, I taxied to the terminal. If I had crash detection turned off, I would never have known if it was still something of an ok landing. Made me feel a bit better.

Plus, I cannot stand the way aircraft bounce all over the ground like a toy with crash detection turned off. I would rather see a black screen and have to restart the flight. 🙂

I was thinking today after dozens and dozens of IFR flights in the Fenix A 320, that in the three decades I have of simming, I have never experienced anything as stable as MSFS 2020. I take off, after planning the flight using Simbrief, fly a Sid if it is applicable, using PF3, plan my descent into arrival airport, shoot either a RNAV or ILS or Visual approach, land and taxi to gate.  No hiccups, no bumps, no problems, it just works each and every time. This morning I shot the ILS into 18C at KMEM, with a 225 foot ceiling, and landed with a 100 FPM rate. Kudos to Asobo.....

After a complete reinstall of the sim I now concur...👍

I've had a few flights with it since the AAU beta launched, never tried it before. I find that it handles going to idle thrust quite early - it sort of just glides in and touches down lightly. As long as the speed doesn't get too low.

In terms of CTDs, I haven't had any in several months. For some reason, I should add, as I had a lot over a long period prior to that. Didn't make sense. The only issue I have now in the sim, occasionally, is that it sort of briefly pauses for a second or so, then returns to normal activity. I've no idea what the cause is - it's intermittent.

I'm running all sorts of addons - but use Addon linker to only load relevant scenery for the region I'm flying in e.g. US/Canada, EU, Asia etc.

Notice this as well when flying over area where the sim has to load up third party scenery.

Bob,

Quick question - do you have GSX Pro installed in your MSFS?

I've been noticing this too lately, since around the time I installed AAU1 beta. Don't know if it's caused by it though. It could also be the new FSLTL injector or something else, but I didn't have this a couple weeks ago. It just happens occasionally, but when it does I always think the sim is going to crash, but it doesn't. Strange.

It is. I could of course test without any addons but it’s not a huge deal. I’ve come to expect the unexpected, so I’m okay with it for the moment.

I don't have FSLTL installed and I also get about three 2 or 3-second pauses over about an hour.  I think it started before the AAU.  Not much of a problem, but it does make you hold your breath and wonder if it is about to crash out!

I put it down to scenery loading as I can't think of anything else.  The pauses do seem to occur when major airports are coming into range.

A new issue I get (not a major one) is I cannot immediately click on the 'fly' button (or whatever it is called) immediately after it loads to the aircraft waiting at the runway threshold when starting a flight (not cold and dark obviously).
There is a delay of about 5 seconds before the button becomes active and allows me to click on it.  I think this might be due to third party scenery as it seems to mainly happen in those start locations.  Like I say, not a major issue but seems similar to the in flight pause.
