Totally depends on where you're flying. I never use the default in sim imagery though.

Whether Google or New Bing, both are higher resolution than default and they dont have the horrible green tinged roads that default has.  (I'm presuming default still has green tinged roads...I haven't used default for many months)

Yes, there are inconsistency's in the addon map data, but the benefits far outweigh the negatives for me.as a mainly Heli pilot.

Hmm, what is 'new bing'?

Google Maps have way better overall color then Bing Map, Bing maps are way to green.

On the other hand, Google Maps have different light/dark zones which are a bit annoying (when flying over them...ah cloud shadows, euh no, no clouds it's a clear sky's...)

It uses the latest Bing Maps data, which is not what we get in the sim in general. I think they used it in the last few world updates, but the majority of the world is using old data.

Even where it is using the new data i still use the Map app as it's higher resolution. (and uses about 4x the data compared to default, so that has to be taken into consideration for those with limited data broadband)

Does anyone that uses the Map enhancement have the paid version?  If so, how is the Apple Maps and ChinaHD data?  Worth paying for?

Difficult for me to fly without Google despite the inconsistencies in some places. The overall rendering is much more realistic. I no longer fly on the default Map.

I never touched the Map Enhancer, mainly because I'm a bit worrisome about reverting back in case it might go wrong.
The stories about a left behind entry in the Windows host file comes to mind and keeps me away from it.

When I fly in MSFS, I often think back of what we have and what we had back then visually, when using FSX/P3D. And then I think, Bing is not that bad. 🙂

But maybe, I give it a try some day. I don't know about the legal aspect of using Google Maps this way. It certainly is clever.

Google is inconsistent and even when it does look good you can quite often see its watermarks plastered all over the fields (very noticeable in France), or even big white text telling you the name of a road.

That's what put me off the first (and only) time I used it, such a massive immersion killer. I'd rather have less detailed areas then more detailed with great fat watermarks everywhere!

For the parts of Australia where I fly Bing is actually the better maps.

I do not think there is a simple "one size fits all"  answer, It really depends where you fly.

Yes agreed; for Aus, NZ, Japan, UK, Scandinavia and most of Europe, parts of Africa and much of the US lower 48 default is more than adequate and works really well.

For Alaska, Canadian Rockies, S. American Andes, Iceland, India, Pakistan and Himalayas (i.e. typically in areas with frequent heavy cloud cover) I use Map Enhancement. In PNG it's a bit of a toss up - both have strengths and weaknesses depending where you fly. It's great to have the choice though. And as has been said it's easy and almost instant to start running.

Must admit, I’ve never come across watermarks anywhere but the only flights into France I’ve made have been Shoreham - Le Bourget.

Hope it stays that way. Unfortunately it’s one of those ‘once you see it, you can’t unsee it’ things.

Same.  In the many hundreds of hours flying all over the world I've seen a watermark once only.

And how do we get new bing? Is there a tool like the one for google?

Stuff like that and worse happens a lot all over europe in bing. Especially in germany and austria after the big europe update.
It actually made me stop flying in my favourite regions there.
Back then I tried the google tool, but even in google there is similar stuff going on, often in the exact same region. 😞
