The idea is to keep both sims. 1-is it better to purchase from steam or the Microsoft store? Is there any difference? 2-i run an i7-8700k with rtx2080 super 32gb ram. Will this be able to handle it well? I know it depends on alot f variables however generally speaking will it run? 3-what real world weather programs do you recommend? I currently use active sky. 4-are there any other must have addons I should purchase? I intend on GSX, Fenix a20. any help would be much loppreciated. Sorry about the formatting of the post. It's not my fault. Personally, I prefer the Steam version. I find the original install and the mandatory MSFS updates installation much more stable than MS' store version. (Be aware that this means certain MSFS folder locations are not in the same location as described by product install guides / other people on forums. Though most recognise that Steam is a popular minority option and assist with defining the location of the Steam default install). Yes. It will run better than P3D in most respects. Be mindful that certain settings such as Terrain LOD will have an outsized impact on your system. No need for an additional weather programme. Unlike P3D, MSFS has its own weather engine, the live weather is OK and there are presets. None of the third party add-ons bring much that's new to the sim and have their own issues. Can't comment on GSX as I don't own for MSFS. However, it's described as not as fully feature rich as it is in P3D. Plus there's an issue with Simconnect in MSFS that once the sim hits a certain amount of objects, all addtional objects fail to load. Though you can mitigate against this. The MSFS ecosystem is a lot less reliant on payware and benefits from an enormous amount of generousity from the freeware community. The default+ aircraft such as the FBW A320 or the WT CJ4 are highly impressive. There are world mods such as Puffin Flight's We Love VFR, Henrik Nielsen's Global AI Ship Traffic, FSLTL AI traffic, AIG AI traffic, among many, many others The world is your oyster with a huge library of downloads available on flightsim.to. I would really recommend seeing what is available in the community before moving to payware to fill the missing gaps. You won't keep P3D... 🙂 Until a decent long hauler (not talking about the A310 which I have not tried yet) lands on MSFS I have both sims running. I just installed the Salty 747 basing that on a Blackbox711 YT flight. Not tried that yet either. Yes, I'm new to MSFS. As for the OP's questions, most have been answered but I'd like to toss the FBW A32NX into the mix. I have the FSL for P3D and didn't want/need another CEO for MSFS. The FBW offering has, so far, impressed me especially considering it is a gratis product. It keeps getting improved and I can't say enough kind things about it. I have to admit though that the sheer visual splendor of MSFS is captivating and hard to deny. P3D has been (and still is) a good friend but the new kid on the block is looking very, very fine indeed! Every update people who bought in the MS store complain in threads here about problems. But they all do manage to get updated after jumping through some hoops. The one time you always want to use the MS store is if you ever think you might buy an Xbox console. If your MSFS purchases, including add-ons, are bought through the MS store, then all of that is free to use on the Xbox console (series S and series X consoles). You would have to buy them all again if your PC stuff for MSFS is through Steam. I mean if you do have an Xbox, then why not put your PC MSFS stuff on it if it's free to do so? Yep--when they don't follow the simple steps which are few but critical, they look for hoops. OMG, what do I have to do in the Store app again? Oh, that's right now I remember I have to go to the Library first, then all updates for all software purchased thru MS is right there, ready to update as needed. Oh, then I have to open up MSFS? Well, sure that's how the install proceeds. I have never had hoops to jump thru w/ the Store version for my initial install, all updates, and two complete reinstalls to a new OS. Not a hitch of a problem. It's not my fault. I had no issues whatsoever with the store version, and the issues that some had seem to have been solved. I think at the moment it doesn't matter much but there are 2 advantages of the store version: a. If you buy in the marketplace, developers get a larger cut of the money (~70% instead of ~40%) b. if you want to play on Xbox you, you need the store version or buy twice. MSFS is probably better optimised for current hardware so MSFS performs a little better. And there are a few settings that can improve performance quite a bit without sacrificing a lot of detail. You need reliable internet though. Weather in MSFS is quite good and Asobo is actively improving on it as well. Third parties have no complete access to the built in weather so the addons that are there are very limited. There are three versions of MSFS available. The Premium Deluxe version has more handmade airports and aircraft and is still worth its money. At east one addon (Cessna 172 expanded) depends on the Deluxe version of the aircraft. The default aircraft were quite decent (for default anyway) and some are going to be upgraded significantly in the coming updates. If you want study level airliners, the default Airbus 310 is great for the long haul, the Justflight BAe 146 is very nice for short flights and then of course there are a few others already mentioned. For GA there are quite a few good choices, especially the Cessna 310 and Analog King Air. Tthe default DHC-2 Beaver is very nice, not completely studylevel but close I think. There's a very good Cessna 172 addon that requres the Deluxe version of MSFS as well. It elevates the default to (almost) study level too. December 16, 20223 yr Author Fantastic, Thanks for all the info. It's very much appreciated. I do however have one more question. I dont have internet at home however I connect my pc and everything that needs internet through my phone. Will this be troublesome with day to day usage of the sim? Regards, Ash

I dont have internet at home however I connect my pc and everything that needs internet through my phone. Will this be troublesome with day to day usage of the sim? Yes, very much a problem! First of all, how are you going to download the 127 GB of data to even install MSFS? Do you have that big a data plan on your mobile phone contract? Secondly, MSFS streams gigabytes of data each flight to give you photoreal ground textures (and photogrammetry cities). While you can limit the amount of data MSFS will download, unless you pre-cache a very small area and don't fly outside of it, you won't see as much of arguably the biggest benefit over P3D. While there are plenty of other advantages of MSFS over other flight sim platforms, not being able to stream the World is a rather big deal. December 16, 20223 yr Yes, as F737MAX eludes too, better check your internet speed through your phone with your current setup to get the most out of MSFS. Minimum for MSFS is 5 Mbps, 20 Mbps is recommended and 50 Mbps is ideal, according to MSFS specs. Will this be troublesome with day to day usage of the sim? It is imperative to have a good speed and solid connection internet for this sim. Huge initial download. Regular large updates. Constant streaming of data when flying. If you keep losing connection or cant stream the data fast enough you end up with a sim that looks worse than FS9. All the scenery, weather and live traffic is completely dependant on a constant data stream. Without good internet this sim is absolutely pointless.
