Declining Photogrammetry Quality

Featured Replies

Hello, when WU11 came out I found the photogrammetry in my hometown of Halifax to be pretty good, in contrast to some of the other Canadian cities.

However, my last few flights within the past week or so have seen the quality greatly reduced to the point where I can no longer recognize individual buildings that I know in real life, they all look badly melted etc.

Any thoughts / ideas of what cause cause the quality to decline so greatly?  Is it perhaps an internet connection/bandwidth issue (I have a 350mbps connection) or more likely something server side?  I run most settings at ultra and none of that has changed on my end.

Thanks

Dave

Current System (Running at 4k): ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F, Ryzen 7800X3D, RTX 5090, 55" Samsung Q80T, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, EVGA CLC 280mm AIO Cooler, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS & Stick, Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant & Add-on, VirtualFly Ruddo+, TQ6+ and Yoko+, GoFlight MCP-PRO and EFIS, Skalarki FCU and MCDU

Does it improve (slowly) when you pauze the sim?

If so, then it probably is a connection/bandwith issue i think

Try switching to a different server where everyone is asleep.  I live in the UK but connect to the south east asia server.  I have it virtually all to myself when flying daytime in Europe.

In addition to what everyone said, you should have a rolling cache file. With a rolling cache file, you won't need to rely on your internet to download the photogrammetry a second time. For me, I set my rolling cache file to about 5 GB to 10 GB.

Thanks everyone, I’ll give those ideas a shot and see if it helps.

And another option is disabling PG outright.  OSM data improved as it is is very impressive compared to the old days.  PG does help them look more natural, less perfect as it were.

I think this issue comes when microsoft servers are overloaded. I notice this a lot when a new WU comes out. I usually stay away from a WU PG area atleast 2 weeks before testing it out(when the casuals is bored and gone back to Call of Duty) . Maybe Im wrong, but Im 99% sure its not on your end.

How do you do that?

Somewhere on the top right, there is an option to select the server you want to connect to. You can select Europe, US East, US West, etc.

Isn't that just for multiplayer server? I didn't think scenery data, or live weather/traffic was being pulled this way. Maybe I'm wrong.

Damned you all.  Now I've let you in on my secret to really smooth simming you will all be at it and I will no longer have SE Asia all to myself.. 😀

It does seem to help though.  I've been smooth as silk since I started doing it.
