SimRail - First Look: Should Dovetail Be Worried?

Featured Replies

Seems pretty nice. And this is from somebody who gets Trainsim world for free on gamepass and was still bored cross-eyed with its static-feeling, deadish world in just a few minutes and deleted....

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

Cool! I have been very tempted to try another transportation simulator. Trains definitely look cool. I just watch a couple of related videos to hold me off and return to Flight Simulator as there is so much stuff and avenues to pursue.

Very interesting, it shows promise. However, that last driver ran over a man wandering along the track in the middle of who knows where Poland! Time around 39:27

If you stop it at 39:28, you'll see it's not a person in the middle of the track; it's some sort of device alongside the track.

I've slowed down the playback to quarter speed for a closer look. It is indeed a stationary post with a green light illuminated. However, it does penetrate the side of the passing car though!🤣

I've been tempted to get into rail simulation for several years, but the thing stopping me is the very limited amount of track and routes that are available.

This particular sim has only 500km of track and based on Steam's limited description it is only in Poland.  By way of example, there are 15,000km of track in the UK and the USA has over 100,000 miles(160,000km) of track.

Focusing on extremely detailed scenery means that these train sims can only cover short routes.

My recommendation would be for developers to come out with something akin to a P3D or MSFS style rail simulator with a worldwide, or at least continent-wide, rail system with accurate and decent quality scenery, but without the extreme detail.

Simulator: P3Dv6.1

System Specs: Intel i7 13700K CPU, MSI Mag Z790 Tomahawk Motherboard, 32GB DDR5 6000MHz RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Video Card, 3x 1TB Samsung 980 Pro M.2 2280 SSDs, Windows 11 Home OS

My website for P3D stuff: https://sites.google.com/view/thep3dfiles/home

Not yet custom controller supported so I'll wait at least for that, and "Avionics" seems still a bit lack. but I can see the potential. (Dovertail didn't got that either ).

Man the graphic and FPS! (by Zusi3 player)

This sim is still in early access stage - dev is quite active with ironing out of found issues.

I think after a few months that will be a solid train sim.

Definitely has potential, and Dovetail could certainly use the competition.

Current System (Running at 4k): ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F, Ryzen 7800X3D, RTX 5090, 55" Samsung Q80T, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, EVGA CLC 280mm AIO Cooler, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS & Stick, Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant & Add-on, VirtualFly Ruddo+, TQ6+ and Yoko+, GoFlight MCP-PRO and EFIS, Skalarki FCU and MCDU

This looks good and the dispatch features would be something I would enjoy. Also if you could do roles of Conductor or Brakeman on heritage rail operations that would be great too

Or dead heading fireman?

Looks well modern and upto date.  Won't get the RMT / ASLEF seal of approval.
