No "stuttery" here and that is in the PMDG 738, AS CRJ in and out of any airport, and that is at 3440x1440. If ultra smooth w/o stuttering is your goal, and you're at 3440x1440 and have a Gsync display, there is no need for frame generation. February 13, 20233 yr Just to note that I have a 2080 super (obsolete by the standards of this thread, I'm sure), and with nearly all settings on ultra and photogrammetry enabled, I am seeing fluid, excellent performance everywhere. It seems clear that MSFS 2020 does NOT require a state-of-the-art hyper-expensive rig to run smoothly. Alienware Aurora R11, 32 GB ram, Intel i7-10700F, GeForce RTX 2080 Super, Ultra graphics settings I suppose you run it at 1080p or 1440p, because at 4k the 2080 Super struggles with ultra settings, mostly because of the 8 GB memory it has. I have a 10700k with the 2080 super and run it at 4k with most settings on high and DLSS Quality. Everything is smooth and pretty.
February 13, 20233 yr 4 minutes ago, turbomax said: what is "excellent"? 30 fps, 60 fps, 90 fps? at 4K resolution? This just in: it isn't ONLY about FPS--it's also about ultra low frame time variance which creates liquid smooth animation at modest frame rates. This message gets lost on most everyone when discussions about performance present, yet it's valid. Here's what I mean, this in the PMDG 738 just yesterday. Note: I can toggle the frame lock off and shoot up to 55fps in this exact scenario and it makes ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE in the quality of animation, and so I keep it on unless in an ultra stressed area where it's possible frame rate might drop below 34. Running this wide open at 55fps in this scenario is akin to racing your car in 2nd gear on the freeway it's simply unnecessary stress on components that delivers nothing but heat and wear. My contention is the brute force approach FG offers certainly allows the user to ignore optimization and get away with it, but it's an unnecessary luxury for 3440x1440 if you're after ultra smooth animation, stutter-free in and out of all airports worldwide. February 13, 20233 yr Resolution is 1920 x1080. FPS is generally 40-60 (set at 60 max) except in high-density areas where it can drop to 30, but even then it is smooth, no stuttering, and graphics as sharp as can be as far as my eyes can tell. At some point I suppose I will need to upgrade the 2080, but right now I am completely happy with the performance, which is at a level I never thought I would live to see in a flight sim.

February 13, 20233 yr Author Thanks for everything guys! Really appreciate all the feedback, I'm feeling better about the 4070ti, of course you always get a bit of a nagging feeling when you don't get the very tip top holy word not allowed component, but the 600 or so more dollars just makes it hard to justify to my girl... hahaha... I'm sure you can all relate. One more thing, I think I can get away with an extra couple hundred for the 13900 instead of the 13700, but I've heard it doesn't really make much of a difference and the extra heat is pretty significant. Any thoughts there?

Good for you. Enjoy it. I think you won't regret going for the 16GB card. Also, Be sure to check and update the firmware on those 980 Pro's. I have two of those and there was recently some iffy firmware that went out that was killing them. They have fixed it now but you don't know if the ones you receive were sent out of the factory with the bad one on. Nothing to worry about. Just make sure they are up to date, is all. 5800X3D - Strix X570-E - 32GB 3600Mhz DDR4 - AMD RX 9070 XT- Samsung 980 Pro x2
February 16, 20233 yr I'm pretty sure that Frame Generation is just another black magik marketing scheme to get us to spend big bucks for new hardware. Remember SLI? This stuff has been going on for decades. Meanwhile I will sit back on my cozy 80-100fps 3060TI enjoying a simple and less costly life. sp Edited February 16, 20233 yr by Sky_Pilot071
